The winners of the 16th Costume Designers Guild Awards were announced on Saturday, February 22.  The Guild handed out competitive awards for costume design excellence in seven categories for in film, television and commercial work. 

  Four honorary awards also were presented at the Awards Gala. This year, the Guild honored five-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams with the LACOSTE Spotlight Award, which was presented to her by Jeremy Renner, her co-star in the film “American Hustle.”

  The Distinguished Collaborator Award was presented to acclaimed writer, producer and director, Judd Apatow by Bill Hader and Jonah Hill in recognition of his support of Costume Design and creative partnerships with Costume Designers.

  Actors Debra Winger and Ciarán Hinds presented Emmy Award-winning Costume Designer April Ferry with this year’s Honorary Career Achievement Award for her outstanding work in film and television. 

  The 2014 Costume Designers Guild Distinguished Service Award was presented to Sharon Day, a longtime member of the Costume Designers Guild Local 892, for her dedication and tireless efforts on behalf of the Guild.

  Actor Joshua Malina, known for his roles in “The West Wing” and “Scandal,” hosted the Awards Gala.  Presenters also included Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Olivia Munn, Tony Hale, Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, Kiernan Shipka, James Wolk, Kathleen Robertson, Geoff Stults, Elisabeth Röhm, Raquel Welch, J. August Richards, June Squibb and Will Forte.

Presenters, nominees and honorees were escorted to the Beverly Hilton Hotel in stylish and luxurious Audi sedans.  Additional celebrity attendees included:  Steve Coogan, Scott Foley, Joe Morton, Bellamy Young, Darby Stanchfeld, Katie Lowes, Dan Bukatinsky, Guillermo Díaz, Amandla Stenberg, Angelique Cabral, Meredith Monroe, Jacqueline Mazarella and Parker Young.

This year’s LACOSTE SPOTLIGHT AWARD will be presented to five-time Academy Award® nominated actress, Amy Adams. Adams has built an impressive body of work including Spike Jonze’s Her opposite Joaquin Phoenix and Paul Thomas Anderson's 2012 film, The Master. Adams' role in The Master garnered her a Golden Globe and BAFTA nomination in addition to her fourth Academy Award® nomination.

Adams recently won a Golden Globe for “Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy” and a Critics’ Choice Award for “Best Actress in a Comedy”for her performance in David O. Russell’s American Hustle. She and her fellow castmates including Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawrence, took home the award for “Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture” at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Adams’ role has also garnered her an Academy Award® and BAFTA nomination for “Best Actress in a Leading Role.” Michael Wilkinson, Adams’ Costume Designer for American Hustle, has also received an Academy Award®, BAFTA and CDGA nomination for his work on the film. Additionally, Adams’ Costume Designer for Her, Casey Storm, earned his first CDGA film nomination this year.

     LOS ANGELES—Dec. 17, 2013—Director, writer and producer Judd Apatow and veteran Costume Designer April Ferry will be recognized with honorary awards at the 16th Costume Designers Guild Awards with presenting sponsor LACOSTE on Feb. 22, 2014, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Apatow, one of the most sought-after comedy minds in Hollywood, is known for writing, producing and directing blockbuster hits such as “This Is 40,” “Knocked Up,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” and the cult classic “Freaks and Geeks.”  He is also the producer behind HBO’s “Girls,” the Oscar-nominated “Bridesmaids,” “Pineapple Express,” “Superbad,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” and fan favorite “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.” He will receive the Distinguished Collaborator honor at the ceremony in recognition of his support of Costume Design across his many remarkable projects, in particular some of his more recent collaborations with Costume Designers Leesa Evans, Jennifer Rogien and Susan Matheson.  Apatow recently returned to produce the eagerly anticipated sequel, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”

Ferry will be this year’s recipient of the Career Achievement Award, an honor that recognizes her body of work in film and television.  With a diverse array of costume designing credits, Ferry has earned an Oscar nomination for her work on “Maverick,” starring Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster. For her design work on the HBO television drama “Rome,” Ferry took home an Emmy Award and two consecutive Costume Designers Guild Awards.

With the support of presenting sponsor LACOSTE, the red carpet, black-tie awards gala celebrates outstanding Costume Design in film, television and commercials. The CDGA has become a highlight of the Hollywood awards season, notable for its lively, fun, warm and engaging celebration of Costume Designers and their essential contribution to film and television. The awards presentation will honor the work of Costume Designers in seven categories, including contemporary, period and fantasy film. Nominations for the awards will be announced on January 9.
