The circus has arrived in Shibukawa and will open again to the public tomorrow, May 5th!

Shibukawa is in a valley between two mountains, and because of it’s location in the approximate geographic center of the islands of Japan, and therefore is known as the Bellybutton of Japan. It celebrates this with a festival in late July every year.

Shibukawa also boasts a large number of onsens, or hot springs, as well as ski resorts. A number of rail lines cross through the area, and Tokyo can be reached in under two hours either by train or by car.

The circus has made its home in Asahikawa for about 4 years now, though most of that time the grounds were almost totally abandoned. Now that Althaea has reopened the Circus, it is time to get things back in order.

Asahikawa is the 2nd largest city in Hokkaido. It is well known for the  Asahiyama Zoo and Asahikawa ramen. Because of its location in the mountains, it is known to have an incredibly cold climate. There are several ski resorts in the mountains, though it is suggested that members of the circus stay as close to the circus grounds as possible.
