Her heart beats a little faster as the elevator descends, hands so tightly wound against her little black clutch that the redhead feels like she’s going to faint. Little by little, she’s remembering that the night started RIGHT HERE, stuck somewhere between a good and bad place. Owen Grady is by no means the love of her life but he did save it on few occasions and the air’s shifted between the two in a matter of twenty-four hours.

They’re not just Claire Dearing and Owen Grady anymore.

And it’s desperate, god is it ever desperate; they use each other, drown in each other, to wipe away the memories of bloodshed and loss. She’s thought about fucking him probably a least half a dozen times on nights better left to the emptywine bottles, but this is different. This is NEEDY, this is HEALING, and Claire can still feel his lips pepper kisses across her skin even when she’s scratching her arms with her fingernails trying to get it to s t o p.

She can’t be attached him like this. He may have kissed her, he may have madeher shake into oblivion, but it has to stop with one night. Soon the trials will start, the lawsuits and corporate games, and as much as Claire doesn’t want to do that alone, she can’t drag him into hell with her.

He deserves better.
