In Hive City, people came and left as quickly as the weather patterns changed. (In a world that wasn't controlled by pompous, asshole scientists, at least.) There was no guilt in forgetting faces that never reappeared in his life, but some, he noticed, reappeared sporadically, often blank slanted every time, as if different versions of one person came strolling into the city every now and then. It was weird whenever that happened, but he gave it little thought.
What really was odd, though, was when a complete stranger harbored the same facial features he had. And, no, not just the same hair or eye color -- specific things, like facial structure and nose shape.
