Donāt ask me why Error was sneaking around the headquarters at Justice Reigns, I couldnāt tell you. But thatās not the important thing. Just know that he was very lucky because today it was one of the few days Dream was out of the building at another establishment. Now, he was rushing past some of the dorms of the more important people when he hears a voice. It sounded young⦠and scared. Error stopped in his tracks, unable to ignore the sound. He backtracked a few paces as the voice got louder and seemed more panicked. Why couldnāt he ignore it!?
He finally found the room where the source of the voice was coming from. The voice seemed no older than eleven or twelve and was obviously male. It was clearly muffled by a pillow or something, but Error could still hear it. It has to be him again, Iām pretty sure this is his room. Error slowly started to open the door, and wasnāt surprised to see a young boy, sobbing into a pillow.
Error cursed his fatherly instincts as he stepped inside, slowly closing the door behind him. He Ā had seen this happen before and had even tried to help once. Hopefully this time nobody would show up āto the young angelās rescue.ā Palette hadnāt seemed to notice Errorās presence yet and Error was able to get close enough to touch him. The boy was whimpering and shouting into the pillow, saying things that sounded like, āShut up!ā and, āLeave me alone dammit!ā Error took in a deep breath, he was going to help this kid. He knew it was a dumb and risky idea but his instincts wouldnāt let him leave Palette alone. He know what Palette must be going through, Error was no stranger to illusions of the mind or panic attacks. Okay Error, you know the pointers. No loud sounds, open up, make sure you are safe to him. You got this.
Errorās first move was to place a gentle hand on Paletteās back. The angel shot up, surprised at the touch and looked at Error. He started panicking and Error was forced to cover his mouth. āKid, Iām not here to hurt you! Actually, I want to protect you. I only want to help, remember me?ā Error knew that keeping covered wasnāt a wise way of proceeding so, keeping a hand over Paletteās mouth, he pulled off the sunglasses and the bandanna in one go. The kid seemed to recognise him but was by all means not comfortable or relaxed. He started trying to move away from Error, a shout mixing in his throat. Error quickly grabbed the panicking child and hugged him from behind, keeping a hand lightly over his mouth. āRemember Palette, I only want to help you. Iāll protect you from them.ā
At those words Palette seemed to stiffen. He still struggled against Errorās arms, refusing to accept the touch. He didnāt need this guyās help!! He was perfect, he needed nobody! Error only held him tighter, repeatedly ensuring the boy that he only wanted to help and protect him from the phantoms and voices that filled his mind. āItās alright, Iāve got you. I wonāt let anything hurt you.ā Palette started to gain more and more control over his breath. Error was working wonders grounding Palette to reality.
āCan I let go of your mouth?ā Error asked quietly, he had to keep it down as it was more soothing to the child. Palette nodded slightly. When Error did so, Palette began to speak quietly. āYouāre Error, right?ā His voice was small and scared, he squeezed his eyes closed, refusing to see the haunting shadows surrounding him and his companion. For some reason, he wasnāt hearing anything from Error that he actually hadnāt said. It was all comfort and care. Error nodded and continued to hug Palette who has stopped struggling. āC-Can you make it stop?ā
In that moment, Errorās heart broke for this little guy. He shouldnāt have to go through this. Nobody his age should. āIām not sure, but Iāll sure as hell try.ā He was determined to help no matter what now. Dream, Error decided, Was a horrible parent. You donāt ignore a childās issues like this! āFor now, letās try and get you to sleep. When you wake up, itāll be better. Trust me.ā Error guided the young angel back against the bed, rubbing his back.
āB-But the nightmares! And, and-ā Palette couldnāt even contain his fear anymore, tears openly leaking from his eyes as he tried to stop them.
"Shh, it's okay. Go to sleep, go to sleep."
This continued for a few minutes, Error comforting the crying child until finally, Palette went to sleep. Error remained with the kid after texting Cross and Nightmare until someone approached the room the next morning.
