You think certain paraphilias are “a problem that needs to be fixed”?
That’s honestly kind of unsettling. Having your attractions (when not related to any actions) be ‘fixed’ is violent. Most mental health professionals are genuinely unsafe for paraphiliacs (especially pedophiliacs, zoophiliacs, and necrophiliacs) to get support from - there is immense violence within the risk of being institutionalised for speaking about your internal thoughts.
Okay it’s early so this might not be coherent, however—
I am pro-recovery anti-psych: I spoke about this a little on main, but I genuinely want supportive, consensual treatment & recovery of harmful paraphilias. I understand that’s not always available or an option, but in that case one should find healthy, no-contact coping mechanisms. I wish for a better world—one of non-violent rehabilitation.
I wrote my initial post out of immense anger, and while I am still very angry at the idea that there are people parading these attractions around as something healthy and good, I hold no ill-will towards people simply existing; however when someone makes themselves a threat to those I care for, I will fight back. And if you can’t see why letting such (internally & externally) harmful experiences go unchecked is an issue—that’s your problem, not mine.
