Katson Alejandra Corinthos, when people heard her name they thought of a sweet but precocious girl. Even at the age of sixteen, that hadnât changed. Katson was the âgood girlâ at her school. The one with straight Aâs, impeccable attendance (sheâd only skipped school once, with the urging of Contessa, and immediately got them both caught as a result of her paranoia), and was always there to help anyone who needed it. The young lady still had her spunk that she was born with - the so-called âKatsonismsâ of her smart (but never mean) remarks - however, in the last four months, that had changed to downright sass. Katson was now being rude - to teachers, friends, and even family - and that was definitely not like her.
Staring at the ever-annoying Newtonâs cradle on the headmistressâs desk, Katson explained her version of the dayâs events to the woman in charge, who just happened to be her aunt Raffaela. âThe woman was wrong and I called her out on it, whatâs so bad about that? Isnât that what you founded this school for - to teach young women and men to stand up for themselves, to become better, smarter individuals? Thatâs all I am doing, helping her become smarter so she can excel at teaching.â Katson sat back, arms crossing her chest, and waited for an answer.
Raffaela spoke calmly. âWhile I do encourage you, and all my students, to speak up for themselves when needed, I didnât expect you to call your teacher an ass for not knowing the correct formula for a math problem. Thatâs not acceptable, Katson.â
Annoyed even more so than before, the young girl sat up straight, arms now leaning on the desk, hands clasped together, and leaned forward looking Raffaela square in the eyes. âItâs not my fault sheâs an imbecile, maybe you should hire better teachers next time.â
Raffaela was shaken, she expected this from some students, but not Katson. Not her beloved niece who loved animals and Beatles songs. The adult woman let the anger slip out, snapping at the girl. âShe was a substitute!! For Christâs sake child, you made the woman cry!â
Katson, now slightly shook herself, widened her eyes as far as theyâd go. No one had ever yelled at her before. Not like that.
âOh good, your mother is here.â Raffaela sighed.
Katson turned, watching through the window as Raffaela exited the room and began talking to her mother in the office. She couldnât make out all that was said, but it was clear the situation was being related to her. She then witnessed her aunt leave the area, and her mother standing there alone. âOh boyâŚâ Katson thought to herself, knowing her mother would be walking in any moment. This behavior had begun months ago after Katson started attending parties she had no permission to attend. She had gone out before to parties when she was younger, but she had never drank more than a few sips of alcohol at one; that changed this year. That, along with an abundant source of wit and sharp tongue, slowly Katson had slipped into being the typical rebellious teenager - only with still perfect grades.

It had been a few hours since the visit Katson had with her mother and now she was laying in bed in her grandparentsâ guest bedroom. Raffaele had fallen asleep awhile ago beside her and Katson would occasionally check on him to make sure he was still breathing. The last thing she wanted was to lose another person in her life. Quietly, she sat up and reached over to the foot of the bed where the book she had been reading to her brother now sat. Sitting it on her lap as she laid back, she began to read it again in her head, but it wasnât her voice she heard, it was her mothersâ. Her motherâs voice slowly became her fathers and before the book was over, Katson had fallen asleep.
When morning came, Katson was awakened by Raffaeleâs foot in her face. âEW! Rafey! Thatâs gross!â She called out as she pushed the foot away causing him to awaken as well. Sitting up, it didnât take long for Katson to remember where she was, and what had happened the day before. She could hear her grandparents down the hall talking, so she knew they were awake. âCome on, letâs get dressed, so we can go eat some breakfast. Iâm starved.â Katson hopped down and began digging through the dresser she was splitting with her brother. First, she pulled out clothes for him and then some for herself. Thankfully, the kid was still a tad asleep so dressing him was relatively easy. After getting herself dressed as well, she brushed her hair just enough so it wasnât all over the place and took her brotherâs hand as they opened the door and walked down the hall to find Anabella and Trevor.
After finding them, they all sat down to eat. Rafey was having his favorite cereal, making a mess in the process and Katson was happy with some waffles with strawberries on the side. As she looked at her grandmother, she could see the concern in her eyes, she was sure was it about her mother. âMa is getting out right? Like, soon? âCause as much as I love you two, I donât want to live here forever. I want mom.â Katson was blunt, as always. She found it was the best way to get the truth, or as close to it as she could. âDo we get to see her today? Wait, do I have to go to school?â It was Friday and honestly Katson didnât even want to imagine how going to school would be. Surely, the news about her parents was on the actual news by now and everyone at school would be asking about it, and her teacher would be making sure she was alright and being overly nice; Katson didnât want to deal with that right now. âIâd really rather not go. Iâll do the work, we can pick it up later or something, I justâŚ. please donât make me go today.â

Kateâs missing starter.
The second Annabella came to pick Katson up from school, she had a sneaking suspicion that something wasnât quite right. Normally her mother would come and get her, or father⌠at the very least Olivia for a play-date with her cousins; but grandma? That rarely if ever happened. First, she thought that maybe, just maybe there was a surprise in store, but when they arrived at the police station and Annabella explained that theyâd be going inside to talk to her mother, Katson knew things were not gonna be good. Sheâd been to the PCPD before, the few times she was allowed to visit her father or other members of the family when they were arrested, but she always had her mother with her. Now, from what she could tell, her mother was already in there. Which in her tiny mind meant, daddyâs been arrested again. Katson assumed that Kate was inside waiting for her so they could go visit her father; it seemed logical to her.
She didnât talk much as she hated seeing her daddy locked up and she knew he hated her having to see him like that. When the door to the interrogation room was opened and Katson could see Kate, she smiled. Until she saw the handcuffs. Katson let out a tiny sigh and was immediately worried. As Dante gently guided her over to her mother, she saw the marks the tears had left on her face, but didnât ask about them as she was hugged. The girl knew that she wasnât going to like what was coming and there was a good chance sheâd flip out. Katson hated not having her way. From what she could figure at the moment, her mother was going to be locked up just like her father had been. This was not cool. Sheâd have to yell at Dante, and Katson really did not want to yell at him.
Katson nodded. âYeah, of course. Are you going to jail?â Her face told those in the room everything, she was scared. And annoyed that everyone was looking at her. She gave the roomâs audience a glare, then turned her attention back to her mother. âIs daddy too?â That to her was the worst thing she could imagine. Having them both go away. But, maybe her mother was about to tell her that sheâd be going and Katson would just have to live with Sonny for awhile. Katson knew she could handle that, as much as sheâd miss her mother, as long as she had one of her parents, sheâd be fine, for the most part. Besides, she knew Alexis and Diane would get her out as soon as possible.
Kateâs missing reply.
Katson listened quietly as her mother explained to her what she knew. âOkay, Iâm holding you to that. âCause I canât live without you, ya know? Well, I could but living with Daddy wouldnât be nearly as fun, no offense to him.â She paused for a moment. âOOH! Make sure you get Diane to help you too! Sheâs great. Whenever Alexis canât help Daddy, she always seems to find a way. Make sure sheâs wearing clothes though. Iâve seen her too many times wearing barely nothing. Max too.â Katson wasnât stupid, she knew exactly what Diane and Max were doing, well, she knew it was sex, she still didnât exactly know what sex was though. She also knew that by playing dumb and saying things like this, sheâd cause a tiny bit of awkwardness for those listening. She really liked doing that. Would have been more fun had Diane or Max actually been in the room though.
When Katson seen the tears on her motherâs face start falling again, she thought she had said something terrible, but then the words left Kateâs lips and Katson wasnât sure what was going on. As she listened to what her mother had to say, Katson felt the eyes of those in the room on her, waiting for her reaction. But they were not going to get one. Katson was not going to cry. Instead, she shook her head to let Kate know she understood. âYes. I understand.â She figured she better say it as well. Katson was not a person who liked to show sadness or that she was uncomfortable; she felt it made her look weak. Sheâd wait till later to cry, right now she was going to be strong, like her daddy. She wrapped her arms around her motherâs neck, resting just above her shoulders and clasped her hands tightly. âI love you Mommy. Weâre going to be okay.â Katson could feel the tears prickling her eyes and she immediately pulled away in an effort to stop them. Looking back at her mother, she gave her a small smile, then a sigh. âSo, if Daddy is⌠gone and youâre going to be hereâŚ. who am I staying with?â
Kateâs missing reply.
When Kate promised sheâd get out of there, Katson felt relieved. She had enough to deal with, having to deal with her mother going away too was not something she could handle right now, if ever. âYeah, that sounds fine. Iâll take care of Raffaele. Weâll be waiting for you.â She wanted to give her mom a reassuring smile but all Katson could do was try not to cry right now. Smiling wasnât something she was going to attempt. âI wonât worry.â She wasnât going to say the word âpromiseâ because she knew itâd be a lie. Hopefully, sheâd get away without saying it.
The little girl, or not so little anymore girl, took a deep breath and looked around before turning her eyes back to her mother. âWhere are Morgan, Kristina and Michael? And Claudia? âŚCarly? Are they okay?â She wasnât sure if her dad was the only one hurt as she didnât know exactly what went on, but she did notice none of them were here and needed to make sure her family was okay. Sure, she didnât exactly love Carly, but she was family, that Katson couldnât change and wouldnât want to. She did create Michael and Morgan after all. âJASON? Is Uncle Jason okay?!â Katson raised her voice on that one a bit, but it had just occurred to her that if her father was dead, chances are so was Uncle Jason, or hurt. âCause he usually protected her father, therefore she went with what she thought was logical.
Kateâs missing reply.
Katson felt her heart rate slow down once it was confirmed that everyone else was alright. But she had yet to hear about Jason and knew it coming. Please let him be okayâŚ, she thought to herself. âOh, good. But Mom, I really donât think everyone will definitely stay okay, this is Port Charles. Besides, Rafey hits his head nearly everyday at least one thing.â Okay, Katson probably shouldnât have said that âcause Kate so didnât know how often the kid hit his headâŚ. âOh, and itâs not my fault. Just sayinâ.â It was amazing Katson could even remember to say that at this point, but it was out of habit and it really wasnât her fault, the kid must have been clumsy. âI will. Mama, donât worry, everything will work out.â She smiled slightly. âI love you too and I will. Hundreds of pictures. Oh, we will. I will help her make the cookies. Rafey too.â
Hearing Kate ask her for another hug, she moved closer and wrapped her arms around her mother, even tighter than before. Katson had never been without Kate for more than a night and those nights were always spent with her father, Olivia or her grandparents. But this, this was going to be different⌠she wasnât sure how long theyâd be apart and for once, she wasnât looking forward to staying with the grandparents, because she knew that Kate wouldnât be picking her up the next day. That, that scared her, but she refused to show it. As the hug ended, Katson smiled at her mother, but her eyes told exactly how scared the child was. âI love you from here to the moon.â With that, she walked over to stand in front of Anabella and Trevor, as Olivia placed a hand on her tiny shoulder.

Missing Kate starter.
Katson grinned. âThanks!!â Looking at her mother, she thought she was going as a baby or small child or something, considering the âoutfitâ she was wearing, until she told her about the costume. âOoh. Awesome!!! I just told Liv she should be one. I donât think she will though. That would be weird if you both showed up as the same thing. I also told her she should be a cat. Cats rock.â Katson decided to leave it at that. No sense going into how she said a 'hot catâ with a short skirt.Â
âSure! I can do that.â Katson rummaged through Kateâs insanely organized closet (so there was no real rummaging), and found a pair of heels she thought would go great with a nursesâ costume. She wasnât sure how traditional her mother was making this costume, so she went with her own instincts to make sure itâd be amped up with leg length. Running downstairs, she held out the heels in front of her. âThese. They are perfect, gives height which will look great with that outfit, but not too much that it feels like work. Plus they are fun and flirty.â
âGOOD!!! I have my costume on! Iâm a professor. Because they are cool, smart and oftentimes hot. At least on tv. In real life, I donât think that are always⌠I wanna go to college. Now! But Mama says I have to finish third grade first. THEN all the way up to 12th before I do. That is too much! You should talk some sense into her.â Katson had a tendency to go off about things that were not really the subject of conversation. âDaddyâs upstairs trying to make up his mind on what to be. He was thinkinâ pirate, but I suggested a cop. Like Dante. Because no one is cooler than Dante. Well, âcept me. But thatâs a given.â Ego? Definitely. She was Sonny and Kateâs child after all.Â
âAre YOU dressing up?! You could be something really pretty, like a nurse. Or donât tell my mother I said this, but youâd make a gorgeous kitty. Not one of those furry kid-lookinâ ones, but the ones with the short lil skirts and just the ears and top.â Katson also tended to have a more adult mind than either of her parents preferred. But she was going to speak the truth, her cousin was hot, she should dress as something hot. âYou got a boyfriend? 'Cause I bet heâd like it. Or the nurse thing. I hear they like that too.â Okay, maybe she shouldnât have said THAT part.

Katson was modeling her costume in front of the mirror in the downstairs coat closet. Hearing some weird slightly scraping noise, Katson assumed some more trick-or-treaters were about to ring the bell. It was the one night of the year that her father allowed Max and Milo to let people (meaning small children) up to the door to knock. Grabbing the bowl of candy off the hall table, Katson rushed to the door and pulled it open with one hand, balancing the bowl on her hip with the other. âKELLI!!!âÂ
Throwing the bowl in the air, Katson reached out her arms and wrapped them around her sister. âI MISSED YOU!!! I LOVE YOU!!!â Noticing something in a bag. âIS THAT FOR ME?!â She pulled back. âMy candy bag! I almost forgot you always bring me one. Eeekk!! Come in.â Looking behind her, Katson noticed the mess she had made in her excitement. âUh, donât mind the mess.â She laughed.
âThank you, daddy!â Katson grinned looking down at her costume. She loved it so, so much. Her eyes shot up at her father. âA pirate?! Now, that would be cool. Or a cop like Dante!!!â Katson was obsessed with Dante. To her, he was the coolest person in the history of the world, well.. next to her parents and Tessa that is. âOr⌠you could be a⌠doctor! Doctors are so awesome. They save people. I played doctor before.â Thankfully, Katson still didnât know about the âbadâ thoughts that came to mind of most adults when they heard those words. To her, it really meant just pretending to be a doctor. âI think Tessie is coming over too. If Olivia lets her.â She really hoped she did, she loved Tess more than anything. Best friend, best cousin, best everything. Theyâd be friends forever. "OOOOH!! BE A DUCK!!! OR A CHICKEN!"
