Cute - Day 29
Final stretch! I opted to go very sketchy with pen (no pencil) to see what would happen after practicing kitty several times this month. I’m pretty happy with it.

Lamp - Day 31
And that’s the end! I’m not really sure what I had planned with this prompt originally but it was nice to go with simple lines. I have not stuck with all of my self rules this month, I added more color than intended on a couple days and there were prompts that I really phoned it in on. However, I can see all the progress I’ve made this month and I can see the difference between Inktober 2018 and Inktober 2019. Could I have made this progress without Inktober? Of course. But there’s something really special to creating an experience for yourself, deadlines and assignments that are not tied to money or achievement in ephemeral space, that helps to force you to confront your process and make art for yourself in a way that is challenging.
Hope you had a great time with Inktober or that you found new growth within your work even if it was a pain.
Day 30 - Cold
Not gonna lie, I went with something simple for the last two days when I wrote my prompts. As energized as I am from Inktober creatively, I am also ready to get back into my normal routine. I’ll take the lessons I’ve learned and continue progressing.
To avoid spam posting, these are Inktober days 23-28 and I have to admit that I might do this next year for Inktober instead of posting daily. There have only been a few days that I’ve had to do late, most of my lateness has been with the posting of work.
Carving out a creative space is a challenge of its own but the creative spirit on social media is a whole other thing. I find that they sometimes eat into one another. Inktober itself as a drawing per day is such a marvelous challenge and I’ve already seen growth in my methods and work from day 1 to day 28. Posting has presented its own challenges as I try to decide how to present my work. The above thumbnail approach makes me very happy because I don’t find that I like to post every day.
And I know that the algorithms favor constant, regular posts but I’m a person and an artist who likes to use some of my social media time to genuinely engage with others online in ways that are inconsistent and frankly fun.
Prep - Inktober Day 21
There was an attempt made to capture this beautiful picture of Misty Copeland. I don’t feel like I hit it on the head but I am happier with the outcome than I thought I would be. So much of working for anything is this part where you wind up to try for something bigger than you can figure out how to accomplish from your current vantage point. Last year I was too scared to try something like this, my art skills were rusty and I still struggle with some inner demons every time I try for something that I know I can’t get right in the first attempt.
I hope you’re quieting your inner demons and finding growth during Inktober!
