I sent an idea to Ni a while back and I think it's up your alley.
So..like it's a vaguely historical setting and the Waynes are wealthy family with lots of servants.
The Kents are farmers who found a baby in a strange thing and took him home.
Bruce's parents still die and leave Bruce with Alfred to protect their family legacy.
The Kents lose their farm and somehow end up getting hired by Alfred as live in servants.
Bruce and Clark become unexpected friends.
They become the best of friends, but when Bruce comes of age, he keeps rejecting every offer he gets.
He keeps everyone on their toes with the hope and assumptions that they'll be chosen. Bruce's "promises" are nothing except vague words dressed up pretty with lace and silk and satin, on expensive parchment and smooth ink.
Everyone fails to notice because they'll never notice, that Bruce's eyes and heart belong to someone else.
Too bad Clark's already married to someone else. A maid within the palace.

I want Clark trapped in a time loop. Clark, despite it all, (in my very personal opinion) is the definition of someone who turns away from their internal problems in favour of focusing on everything else.
Because if he doesn't address whatever it is just happened to his personal life then it may as well not exist.
Clark's "fears" doesn't just stem from him losing his family via old age or dying too early, but it's them leaving him because he's a messy person who can't actually get his shit together. Clark likes to act holier-than-thou at times with the rationalisation that he's doing it for the betterment of the other party, when really, he just doesn't want to deal with it because he doesn't know or even fully knows that he doesn't want that kind of responsibility.
Kick Clark in the balls and actually make him accountable for his shit, and I will cheer, I will applaud, I will scream and cry and make out with whoever makes Clark suffer without putting blame on to someone else—which is more of often than not in SuperBat, is always Bruce. Because it's always Bruce's fault even though it really isn't.
