Surfacing from the obscurity of San Francisco’s club scene, Mophono, aka Benji Illgen, made a thunderous entrance last week with the release of his debut full-length, "Cut Form Crush" released on CB Records.

B Boy culture, jazz and classical strings all mix well into Mophono's own musical mélange, giving way to what is the 14 track composition of this thug jazz. Crushing, as in the hard drums that can be heard throughout the record's atypical and aberrant audio. His album listens with the ebb and flow of a live set, taking moments to pause and breathe between attacks.

The album is steeped in deep layers of introspection.
