It seemed like an easy enough mission: gather the Resistance allies that were scattered across the Outer Rim. At first, Zay had thought it was just busy work because she was just a kid who had lost both of her parents, but once her adrenaline from escaping the Retribution ebbed away she realized that feeling was just a mix of uselessness of being unable to save her mom and dad and wanting to shoot her anger away talking.
That, and, well, convincing the Resistance’s supposed allies turned out to be a lot harder than it looked.
It boggled Zay’s mind that the very people who said they needed proof of the First Order’s suspicious activities before they acted against them were now trying to save themselves in the wake of what happened to the Hosnian System. It was as if it was too much evidence and they either thought the Resistance had no chance to win or didn`t want to get caught in the same crosshairs the Resistance now found themselves in.
As she, Shriv and Dio headed back towards the landing dock where their ship was after another failed meeting, they received a message requesting they make a detour to answer a Resistance distress signal that they were the closest to. It was another mission that seemed simple on the surface—but the planet in question was at the edge of First Order territory, and something seemed to be interfering with the signal as they hadn’t gotten an update from the downed unit recently.
Proceeding with caution, Zay tapped into the tracking and survival training her parents taught her to zero in on an approximate location. Holding her sniper rifle ready in front of her as they traipsed through the forest, Zay snapped it up on reflex as a voice called out, slowly lowering her weapon as Dio seemed to scan the man and give the all clear; it wasn’t a trap, he was with the Resistance.
❝ Your signal stopped coming through for a while now, ❞ Zay explained in a little more detail as to why it took so long to find them. She glanced up at the sky as she continued. ❝ It’s either something atmospheric or…deliberate. ❞ She returned her gaze to him, and her eyes said what her mouth didn’t: First Order. ❝ So I’m not even sure what you need, but we can take a look and see if we can fix it. We can totally give you a ride outta here instead, too, though we’ll have to be careful. Where were you guys headed? Oh! ❞ she suddenly exclaimed as she held a hand out. ❝ Zay Meeko, Inferno Squad. ❞
