February 9, 2024 - Slaty-backed Nightingale-Thrush (Catharus fuscater) These thrushes are found in the undergrowth of mountain forests, often near streams, from Costa Rica to central Bolivia. They eat insects, particularly beetles and ants, as well as spiders and berries, foraging on or near the ground, usually in the undergrowth. Females probably build the cup-shaped nests from rootlets, moss, leaves, and other materials in dense vegetation near the ground. They lay clutches of one or two eggs.

"Small skulking thrush, far more often heard than seen. Found in middle and high elevation forests, always low to the ground; can be seen along trails but usually quite shy. Song consists of simple flutelike phrases, often repeated."
