Understand the Cat6 Plenum Technology
Cat6 plenum cable is different from a riser cable or a vertical cable and also from a PVC cable. Electronically these cables are the same; however, the difference lies in the outer sheathing. The sheathing on the external part of this particular cable is of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) insulation and the outer jacket is a plenum rated.
The plenum spaces are the spaces in a building which is an event of a fire make fast fire. Because these are the places through which air circulates and there is a high level of oxygen in them. We suggest running cat6 plenum cable in your plenum spaces because, in addition to its superior electronic characteristics, it will not melt off with toxic fumes in an event of a fire.
