It's that time of year again...casting and complaining.
Disclaimer: I used to be one of the people that I'm going to type about. I know the error of my ways and am willing to admit my mistakes. So no one can call my hypocrite over this topic when I know what over done wrong and that I've fixed what I've done. Now, that being said, I HATE CASTING WEEK! Mother of God I hate casting week! I've been performing since I was 8 years old. And every time casting week roles around I prepare myself for two things: the amount I stress from my anxiety and the complaints from less experienced people. Every year it's the same thing, "wah, I'm not going to get a part and it's my second year! I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Oh my God. Why does this happen to me." Just...stop. Okay. Stop. I've been in theatre for much longer than a lot of people I know and I still don't expect to be handed a lead every time I walk in a damn door. To constantly hear people who have only done one-four shoes about how they're JUST THE ENSEMBLE is so disheartening. You don't need to have a speaking part to have fun or to be important. There are no small characters, only small actors. I used to have the state of mind where if I wasn't right up front I center, my director hated me and thought I sucked. But I realized, as I grew up, that my directors didn't out me in the back because I sucked, but because they were showing me what it's going to be like in the real world because they know I plan on pursuing theatre after high school. I had to grow up and stop being a whiny baby about it to figure that out, but I did. Sometimes it isn't because you don't fit the part; sometimes it's because someone is trying to help show you something or teach you something you will learn to value later on in life. Stop complaining about not getting the lead told your second year in. You'll get your chance. Just keep trying and don't ever stop having faith in yourself...alright, I'm done being mad about this. Goodnight my darlings. Have a lovely night:)
