Making and painting spheres from polymer clay. There's this minor detail I'd like to complete for Merlin on his ling scarf he wears, but I don't have a snap or button I can use in its place, so the polymer clay I can bake in the over will do just fine. I measured out the amount of clay I needed to make both spheres identical, baked them at 250F/120C for a few minutes and am now painting them with a base of white so the main yellow color shows well. MERLIN WIG IS DONE! I won't be spiking it until we arrive in Japan though so I can keep the i tergrity of the hair fresh through travel. I used FW Ink and rubbing alcohol to permanently dye the hair. The length has been braided for safety so it won't get tangled between now and Halloween. The white and pink petals are barettes that I can easily attach to the wig. Sorry for the lack of complete progress photos. I'm working on the top right now and have to fit the main jacket to the model so it fits with the reference pictures as well as stitch the collar. The top reminds me of a happi coat, but it needs some tailoring and maybe some extra panels. Anywho, pictured is the discs on Merlin's deep blue sash. They'll be treated with some sanding primer and will get more treatment and sealant. I also cut some craft foam petals for the top, but not sure what the center will be since these are supposed to also be flowers. AHHHHHH it's done! I apologize for the weird shoulders. My model is a man and I have a female sewing dummy that doesn't have broad shoudlers, so it's going to look lumpy D: I digress! Two pictures of the front and back of Merlin's mini cape. It's based off whatever artwork I cohld find since there aren't many reference pictures of him out at all, even for the JP release. I dyed the blue petals in the middle but passed on the bright pink since the dye didn't look right to me. The blotchiness is deliberate. Being resourceful for Merlin. I bought some off-white cord and used some acrylic paint and fabric paint to make a dye with a ratio of water to dilute the paint. Cut the cape and finished the colors. Will be making the bias tape tomorrow to fit the circumference. I'll also be fitting the model to the cape to make sure everything matches up.
