The webcomic Kila Ilo by @cassiesart‘s HAS FINISHED!

So, I had an assignment in my program.  We were instructed to choose an artist who was a great inspiration to us and then create a character and attempt to draw them in the style of that artist.  I chose Cassandra Thomas.

Cassandra is the creator of KiLa iLo, my favourite webcomic ever.  Even the previous version of it holds a special place in my heart.  I love the story, the character designs and interactions, all of it.  It means so much to me, and I’m so happy to have stumbled across it on Deviantart.  It’s not just her webcomic, even her short stories to her drawings she does on the side, her ability to evoke both sadness and laughter in her work, I love it all.  Her art evolution was great to witness firsthand.  KiLa iLo was and still is a huge influence in my choice to pursue character design.  I will be sad to see it end, but I also can’t wait to see what else she may create in the future.

Oh look you have an ice staff. There is one use left.

I grab my ice staff and point it at the incoming pengull. My aim is perfect, of course, and the bird recoils for half a second. The staff disintegrates to dust within my hands and the last thing my optical sensors record to my memory banks is the too-close face of an angry pengull piercing through the center of my chassis.

It is dark for a brief moment, and then I feel a sharp warmth. My optics come back online. I scan the revolting nature of my surroundings and conclude it is the same afternoon that I discovered the door. It looms over my body as I run a quick systems check. I lift myself to my feet and shake my fist at traitorous contraption. I am certain both he and “They” can hear me.

“YOU WILL NOT BEST ME, INFERIORS! I AM WX-78, AND I WILL DEMONSTRATE TO YOU MY OVERWHELMING POWER!”

I go through the door.
