Guitarist/vocalist Cassie Ramone designed a deck released alongside the band's new record-- their first in almost 10 years. The preorder came with a flexi-disc featuring a cover of Marshall Crenshaw's "You're My Favorite Waste of Time." I was hooked with their first single, "Sick," which plays a bit in the last slide. New York çıkışlı The Babies, 2008 yılında Woods grubundan Kevin Morby ve Vivian Girls grubundan Cassie Ramone ikilisinin, Brooklyn’de küçük bir daireye çıkıp birlikte şarkı yazmaya başlamaları ile kuruldu. İkili daha sonra bir ev partisinde grubu faaliyete geçirme kararı aldı. Gruba yapılan davul ve bas takviyesinin ardından ise Brooklyn’de sahne almaya başladılar. Grup 2010 yılında, kendi imkanları ile “All Things Come To Pass” ve “Meet Me in the City” adlı iki şarkı yayınladı. 2011 yılının Şubat ayında ise bu iki şarkının da yer aldığı ve kendi adlarını taşıyan The Babies albümü Shrimper Records etiketiyle yayınlandı. Bu albüme baktığımızda, grubu oluşturan iki ismin mensubu oldukları diğer gruplar olan Woods ve Vivian Girls çizgisinde değil de, daha farklı ve yeni bir müzik denediklerini görüyoruz. O dönem Kevin’ın bas çaldığı Woods folk temelli, Cassie’in vokalini üstlendiği Vivian Girls ise noise pop ağırlıklı bir sound’a sahipti. The Babies’e baktığımızda ise enerjisi yüksek ve özgün bir indie rock görüyoruz. Albümdeki şarkılar kısa, hızlı ve Kevin/Cassie ortak vokalleri mevcut. Başarılı bir örnek olarak “Meet Me in the City”i göstermek yanlış olmaz sanırım. Diğer şarkılar için ise daha çok ikinci albümün altyapısını oluşturuyor diyebiliriz. Grup ilk denemeleri olan bu albüm ile yıl içinde birçok konser verdi ve kitlesini oluşturmayı başardı. Bu süre içinde bas gitarda bir değişime gidildi...
