Getting the Cuban triple cap right is the final step in the long process of putting together a cigar from a stack of tobacco leaves. And one of the most frustrating parts (but they are all frustrating) until you really study pro-made cigars of the same exact size you’re working on next to yours for comparison. Then you have to find a cutter--casquillo--that happens to be the exact right size, down to the 64th of an inch. A 44-gauge cigar needs a 42-gauge casquillo. I found such a thing in our utensil drawer, the rear end of a metal wand with two different size liquor shot measures at the other end. I removed the butt bit, visible in the above photo, and was left with a perfect 42-gauge cutter. Que suerta!
