My forth Master (Sweetness knows no age)
My heart had been ripped to shreds by my last two masters. The first, having what I felt as true love ripped from my grasp and the fate of my child hanging in the gloom. The second, watching a child so filled with joy and life simply wither and decay. The family couldn't bear to see my face every day; too painful a reminder. I didn't blame them. With no desire or need for a slave in their home I had to find myself a new residence, a new master.
The family recommended me to everyone they knew. Great with kids, always honest, loyal, does as told. I felt like a pet, a dog, looking for a new owner. I guess that's what I was really.
It took a few months but I finally found a new master. There were no children in this home, just an old woman; a spinster. She had found love once but it simply wasn't meant to last. I was told to take the form of the daughter she had never had but always dreamt about. As time went on, I was to age and grow just as her daughter would have, only a little accelerated.
My mistress rarely gave me orders, simple things about running errands and doing chores. I don't know how she did it but I felt less and less like a slave. I felt more like a daughter taking care of my ailing mother as time went by.
There was only ever one order I wish I could have refused. It still haunts me to this day; please just let me die, don't get in the way of death.
I was going to lose another master, due to their untimely death. Was I cursed? I was no fool, I knew the old woman couldn't live forever but I had no idea it would be so soon.
As soon as she came home from the doctor I knew it wasn't good news. However, I would have helped any way she needed or asked, but the order...It broke my heart to comply.
It broke my heart to lay in bed knowing she was ending her life in the next room. BANG! One gunshot and it was all over. I was free, I could have left and never looked back, but my mistress had one final request and it was one I would not ignore.
I could barely see through the tears that stung in my eyes. For the longest time, I stood there staring at her. She looked so peaceful, lying there with her eyes closed, without an ounce of pain or fear on her features. It was just as if she had fallen asleep. If only I could have ignored the bullet hole in her temple and the blood that tainted her once pristine white hair.
She had always been such a proud beautiful woman. I couldn't let her be seen/found in this state. She had organised and laid out everything; I knew just what to do.
Cleaning away the blood, a soft swipe of makeup and her hair perfectly styled. Next came the exquisite gown, looking like fresh fallen ice and snow, it sparkled like starlight. I had never seen anything so beautiful before. It truly was the perfect gown for her.
When I had finished she looked like a sleeping beauty waiting for her prince to come and wake her with a kiss. If only fairytales were real...
