I gave away a Shiny Articuno in Pokemon GO. They gave me a Mew.

It was a Delta Species version, mysterious, and from a set I never really understood. But they were so happy to have that Articuno. And I walked away knowing this card wasn’t just about stats or decks. It was about appreciation.

This card wasn’t from my childhood. I didn’t trade for it. I didn’t pull it. I just saw it. And knew.

I had started a new Pokédex journey of trying to collect the one card that best represented each Pokémon. And this Pidgeot? It’s soaring. Free. Elegant. Almost like it’s flying through every type all at once.

When I pulled this card as a kid, I was ecstatic. When I realized it had been stolen, I was crushed.

Years later, I found it again and I wasn’t just happy. I was relieved. Like an old friend had come home.

Misty’s Gyarados was chaotic. Its Poké-Power was unpredictable. And it always felt like the card was trying to prove something.

Just like Misty. Just like me.

I wasn’t looking for this card. But once I saw it, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Team Magma’s Groudon didn’t need flashy stats. It had style. Purpose. A story baked into the art.

And it reminded me how much I love Hoenn. The plot. The ambition. The tension of Team Magma’s mission.

As a kid, I thought this card was weird. Why couldn’t I find Normal Energy cards in booster packs? Why did this one only say “Double Colorless”?

It wasn’t until I played the Pokémon TCG Game Boy game that I understood how it really worked. And once I did, I started to appreciate Normal-types more. Not for power. But for flexibility.

I didn’t get to see Pokémon 3 in theaters. I didn’t get the promo when it came out. But years later, I bought this card and it hit me harder than I expected.

That movie was about a girl coping with loss. It was deeper than most of us were ready for. And Entei? He was her protector. Her imagined strength.

Pulled from a pack when I was 10, this card changed something for me. Dark Golbat was never supposed to be a star. But in Team Rocket’s hands, it was.

A common Pokémon turned holo. A flashlight green glow. A sneak attack vibe. It wasn’t just a cool card. It was Golbat, as he always was in the games: disruptive, clever, and impossible to ignore.

Everyone talks about Charizard. But for me? It was always Zapdos. That 100 damage felt unstoppable. That bold, electric pose?Legendary.

I never pulled it as a kid. But at a card show, I finally got to bring this Base Set Zapdos home. It wasn’t mint, but it was mine and 10 year-old me was screaming.
