Although we spent a lot of time at the resort, we also took the opportunity to spend some time in the town of Playa del Carmen.  The "main street" of the town is heavily geared toward tourists, with many shop owners outside accosting you to buy their wares.  

If T-shirts, sombreros, or ceramics aren't your style, they also offered weed, blow, ecstacy, and girls.  There were some interesting stores:

The pharmacies also caught my eye.  They seemed to specialize in Viagra (and other ED drugs) and antibiotics, with Retin-A and muscle relaxants thrown in for good measure:

There was also a plaza area for street performances:

On our last night in Playa del Carmen we had what I would consider as the best meal of the vacation at Carboncitos.
