Despite having no supports, Candace (and the other recruitables in general) are actually doing a pretty good job of softening blows for other team mates, when a chapter requires an odd number of characters.

So, I’ve been thinking that, while you can’t interact much with them in the game proper, I still think it would be cool to ponder their motivations for joining the army and their futures afterwards. I’ll make a post for a bunch of them, and if I can, I’ll eventually cover everyone.
This post will be about Daniela, Zhara, Candace and Kumagera
Though originally the most unwilling to cooperate, mostly because of her arrogant nature, Daniela has had spats with Nohrian higher ups before, and once the opportunity for her to get even is mentioned, she agrees to help the Hoshidans. Her keen mind for strategical affairs adds new insider knowledge about Nohr to Corrin’s forces.
Once the war is over, and the truth about Garon’s condition is out, Daniela is relieved of her duties by the Hoshidan army, and upon being scouted by Camilla, she is re-inserted into the position of captain of the border patrol, due to her years of skill and experience, despite having aided the Hoshidans. While she retains her haughty streak, she’s learned to become a better person. Slightly.
Although he’s a veteran who’s proud to fight for his homeland, Kumagera can be swayed to aid the Nohrian army, for his defeat means his life is now in Nohr’s hands. With Corrin’s promise of benevolence to the Royal Family and the citizens of Hoshido, along with the sheer might of the Nohrian army he’s seen for himself, he decides allying with Nohr for now might just be the best way to end the senseless bloodshed.
As the conflict draws to a close, Kumagera is released from Nohr’s control and decides to aid the newly enthroned Queen Hinoka with his expertise, hoping to help her rebuild and guide Hoshido. He retains his merciful nature and laments the lives lost in the war, seeking forgiveness for aiding Nohr, although the surviving Hoshidan royal family understand his decision.
It doesn’t take much to convince Candace to help - an adventure is an adventure to her, no matter which side of the conflict she is on. Siding with either Nohr or Hoshido means she will get to expand her own legendary exploits outside the borders of Nohr, and siding with both means she gets the privilege to be one of the few to ever get to see the Kingdom of Valla at all, and that is a chance she absolutely will not miss.
After the conflict is over, Candace is released. She’s learned that she shouldn’t steal from others in order to bolster her own fame, as it would only sully her reputation, which she hadn’t considered before. She maintains contact with the friends she’s made in the army, due to her natural charisma, and resumes her life as an explorer.
Zhara is originally reluctant to lend his blade to Corrin’s cause, believing there is no going back to the fame he once held, and that he’s shamed himself far too much allying with common thugs. Once assured that his skills are still his, no matter what he’d use them for, he considers helping out, because it beats doing nothing.
After the war has concluded, Zhara has been rehabilitated and has found a new reason to fight, once again utilizing his famed swordsmanship, now to defend Nohrian citizens, instead of harassing them. He seeks to start anew and perhaps help others start anew after committing crimes. He no longer views his worth depending on his fame, though it comes naturally either way, but now with a new dimension to it: True admiration.
