I wonder if the James S.A. Corey duo wanted to write Dafyd as this turbo pragmatic and borderline Machiavellian protagonist as a change of pace from writing the lawful good paladin James fucking Holden

I just finished listening to "The Mercy of Gods" by James S.A. Corey and,
God its so good. I adore their writing style so much, and Jefferson Mays once again NAILS the narration.
Also the end chapter, The Swarm, my beloved, is in love and sfakdnjak I can't wait to see how that pans out lmao
About halfway through Mercy of the Gods by James S. A Corey and unable to shake the constant nagging in the back of my head that I've never felt more reflected by a character than I feel now with Dafyd Alkhor. I'm just a little bit dumber and better at coping. Everything he does strikes me as so pinpoint perfectly normal and rational that I'm quite afraid he's going to leap from the page and look exactly like me.
Otherwise, I'm liking the book fairly well so far, but there are a lot of different directions it could go from here and most of them would need quite a lot of nuance to be really compelling. That level of nuance was only occasionally present in The Expanse, so I'm not going to hold my breath, but until I find out for sure, I'm having a good enough time. The book has a lot of elements I don't particularly like, but it's all wrapped in this question of cosmic morality that I enjoy.
I finished 'Faith of Beasts', the second book in the Captives War trilogy.
Wtf!? What do you mean I have to wait two more damn years for the third book!? Fucking hell!
So I'm reading book two of the Captives War. It got released last week.
And something occurred to me.
You know that joke that Tumblr had about aliens encountering humans? About how they take a few and get surprised about what happens?
This is it. That's this book series (it will be three books and two novellas). Completely.
It's hard sci fi, that's what the writers are known for (they wrote The Expanse), and it's fairly realistic. Not a soft, meme joke. But that's what this series is.
Aliens discover humans. They take a few as pets. And then humans happen.

Started this novella in preparation for book 2 of this series coming out this week 👀
I just finished the mercy of gods by James SA Corey oh my days it was so good the inner turmoil just never let up I fear 😭 reading through it I thought it was fairly paced until you reach the ending and realise things are just about to pick up. It kind of reminds me of the maze runner (movie I never read the book😅) it’s not necessarily the events itself that’s page turning, but the consequences of each and every action the characters make all eventually leading to one big decision that will break everyone involved. Dafyd is also so good he’s surprisingly vile in the ways he tries to do good, I feel like he’ll rise to the top of my favs in the second book, tho my favorite rn is Jessyn and an alien
It was really good man, I’m so glad I read this a month before the next book comes out I would’ve died if I had to wait 2 years for the next instalment
Ps spoiler
The swarm???? So good. It’s so good prob one of my fav characters period. It’s biology (?) is so interesting and it allows for character development and relationship building at the same time??? Idk what do you call it when your kind takes over a hosts body but instead of merging their memories with you, their consciousness become your dorm mates instead
Great stuff, I’m DEFINITELY gonna get the next book
