Introductory Post- Who and Why #fiestywriteups
Hi everyone! My name is Louisa Li and I am a 21-year-old, 4th year Commerce student at Queen’s University with an itch for anything writing-related since my high school days.
(Picture of me acting relaxed while secretly trying not to fall off a 1000 year old balcony overlooking the ruins of Morocco en route to the Sahara Desert 🐫)
I decided to take WRIT 240: Writing for Social Media and The Web because I want to test out the boundaries of social media writing and expand from my background in business writing.
I am someone who always had a keen interest for writing from being the founder of my high school’s first poetry slam club, Rhythmic Cypher, to writing business cases, memos, philosophy essays on Thomas Hobbes to short stories in my childhood days. However, besides a couple of Facebook posts here and there and a once in a blue moon witty Instagram caption #captionqueen, the one style of writing I have never experimented in depth with is social media writing.
More specifically, I have a passion for exploring serious world issues and events, such as the widely known #heforshe campaign (https://www.heforshe.org/en) and the stereotypes of Asian Canadians or the whole other stereotypical life of #crazyrichasians (which definitely deserves a #cannotrelate hashtag).
Although I am very passionate about all of these topics and I cannot wait to tell the world about my stance, I have struggled with finding a tone that I am comfortable with when publishing my thoughts on social media. Through the WRIT 240 course, I am excited to learn more about how bloggers from across the world are able to convey their thoughts on such heavy topics using comedic and light tones.
I see this course as a valuable opportunity for p e r s o n a l g r o w t h , where I have an entire semester to learn more about my personal interests, writing style, and understand the personas that I want to speak to as a Tumblr blogger. I am very excited to compare my first post with my last Tumblr post to see which type of blogger I have blossomed into and observe how my writing style has evolved over the course of the semester under the guidance of my professor, TAs, and peers!
