Holding Captain very gently today after last night I set her on fire at her own engagement party in the thing I wrote. Technically it was her dad and I hate him SO MUCH. I will legitimately cry if the DM pulls him out. Everyone who knows her dad & the full extent of his lore will be shaking like angry chihuahua's...
Maybe i should write a piece of Captain fluff. I could be nice.
“You may hear stars referred to as ‘eternal,’ but in fact no star can last forever. Since the business of stars is making energy, and energy production requires some sort of fuel to be used up, eventually all stars run out of fuel.
Ultimately, the Sun and all stars will die, and it is in their death throes that some of the most intriguing and important processes of the Universe are revealed. For example, we now know that many of the atoms in our bodies were once inside stars. These stars exploded at the ends of their lives, recycling their material back into the reservoir of the Galaxy.
In this sense, all of us are literally made of recycled Stardust.” — My college astronomy textbook.
Anyway so, this is Captaineer because—
I fear the love for Captain grows worse with every stupid thing she does. In last night's session alone she
- Super Autism (literally what it got described as for how bad her sensory issues were for a bit)
- had a breakdown with tears as she finally felt emotions after 13 years of not doing so
- Attempted to run away from the party (got stopped by her godly assigned babysitter)
- taunted another party member to shoot her while he pointed a gun at her (she's already died once, do you think it'd stick the second time?)
- experienced thousands of other people's lives in the span of about 5 minutes
- Lied to the entire party about something & doesn't care about them being confused
- is incredibly overstimulated by being around 100s of people given what her abilities do to her
- Learned some new magic spells (she is very anti-religion and magic!) (also the party doesn't know this one so if they see this, HI! You can try to ask :p)
- Learned that of she doesn't get better the world fucking ends so she is going to be very dedicated to this redemption stuff. Mostly so the world doesn't end
She had a very very eventful 5 hours. She's also still in very very ripped clothes, wearing 1.5 mechanical wings, & such because that's the outfit she died in and the entire party kinda hates her :D she's my favorite dumb bitch
HI IM RETURNING THE FAVOR
🔥🥀 for the ask game :))) amos and/or captain but im happy to hear about anyone!!!
Yay! These ones are fun for these two :) I'm going to give both because nothing is stopping me. Read more for dnd character yapping

I am bored so it is time to ramble about player character Captain's birds (3/4 anyways) and their importance :D
For starters, Captain was always connected to birds. Their last name is Avis [Making them Captain (redacted) Avis] which at least according to my very old notes translates to bird? I might need to recheck.
The Canary
The Canary is most known for it's role in the coal mine, a bird that sings songs and has a more sensitive respiratory system and so it detects dangerous gasses in the air before the people begin dying.
Captain would make music with their wife, Yvaine, before their wife's death. Yvaine was the one who knew music already and was the one who played instruments. Captain would be the one who wrote and sang the lyrics to the music. They sang very well, and had the timeline gone any differently would have tried to become a scholar or a musician. Unfortunately, life did not go this way for them.
They knew Yvaine was sick before Yvaine knew, having had to learn some stuff to care for their own injuries and then some from being part of the navy. They were quiet for a while before throwing themself entirely into any kind of medical research to try and find a cure, though it was a fruitless endeavor. The first thing they noticed when they found their wife dead was the silence
Additionally, Canaries going silent is a sign of danger. The party has only had one chance to see this in action, but Captain gets a warning of danger. As she is a stealth based character [rouge] she ended up going silent before the threat appeared. Them going silent was a sign there was some form of danger coming, not that any characters noticed this. One day, the party will notice that Captain's silence will Herald in Death, simply a matter of who is dying.
The Canary is a beautiful bird, who spends a lot of it's life in a cage. Captain has been exchanged between hands for who has control over the canary, right now they're torn between a few people who have some amount of control over them. This canary desperately wants it's freedom.
This is the Gods' favorite canary.
The Mourning Dove
The Mourning Dove is known for being associated with love, as it does mate for life. Captain's wife is dead and that is the only woman they'll ever love. They are still mourning her loss because due to the deal they made with a god they have been unable to feel emotions for 13 years.
Mourning Doves are not actually songbirds, they are not of the correct family I think it was. This does not stop people from classifying them as such because of the call of these birds. This is fitting for captain as they are not a real human. They are a very good approximately human person though. Maybe they can get that humanity back eventually.
Doves are also usually associated with peace and purity to some degree. Captain played an important enough part in the war that the royal family would start a war if they died. Captain, whose hands are covered in so much blood, helped secure a very tense peace. They are very tired of this, and have actually left the government and navy completely. Though, I don't think this is a great thing when they realize her ship is gone/destroyed and there is 0 evidence of where Captain went. That is a consequence that will be figured out later.
Captain also has never had the chance to make peace with things that have happened, being used as an emotionless killing machine by the gods for years now. Only in less than 24 hours ago [lore wise] did she get emotions back. But, they also got an upgrade to an ability they had which means they are stuck with the memories of 1000s of people. So, that is not very peaceful for their mental state as they try to figure out emotions again. Not to mention, some other things my DM has confirmed will happen to them are very much going to make it much harder for their ability to get peace.
This alongside the love things is more an ironic sense since it's two things that they will never get to have.
The Eagle
The Eagle is a bird of prey, known for its eyesight and hunting capabilities.
Captain Avis is one of the most ruthless, efficient killers that humans could have hoped for. It was why they hired her and her crew to help with the war. However, not all of this killing is done for sport. Captain would be happiest if things were actually their choice, especially when matters of life and death are at play. Just because they have guilt and want control over who/what they kill, it does not mean they're any less efficient nor does it mean they'll stop doing it.
As for the eyesight... It's a very loaded thing to talk about what Captain can and cannot see. Memories, emotions, and words spoken are all visible to them but it makes it harder to see the physical world. They also were partially blind in one eye after an incident with their eye - an injury that still affects them to this day. Having True Vision alongside everything else is a double edged sword - and Captain always preferred knives.
Then we get to their typical role in myths. In the Odyssey, it was an eagle that delivered the message to Odysseus about the threat that is Astyanax, Prince Hector's son. In general, eagles were an omen that Something™ was going to happen. This is very very interesting as Captain is the one who sees omens and adjusts their behavior as necessary.
It's also associated with freedom, which as I've said before, Captain has never had, so yet another Ironic thing!
Breaking News
I actually wrote some Captain & Yvaine fluff today. Technically probably falls under hurt/comfort umbrella. The babies are happy and calling each other dear and darling and beloved and lover
A win for my d&d lesbians
Step one: make a character who knows a bunch of languages
Step two: put her in a toxic situation
Step three: get her out of toxic situation one, and put her in a much worse one for her mentally
Step four: she slowly talks less
I swear the lore I learned last night for the Captain was me mostly bullshitting in a Sleep Deprived state but fuck. This is NOT looking good for her mental health. Shout out to proficiency in lying & performance :)
