Brenner is 000- He Sure Is! (Matthew Modine Tell Us What You Know)
So, I was staring at the lab tvs (for art reference of all things), and I noticed that Captain Brenner is listed as âSubject 000â on the TV screens:
And I immediately thought of what Matthew Modine said about how he thinks that Brenner (specifically in-show Brenner) could be 000:
And now Iâm staring at that vs a.) this post I made where I talk about the weird overlap between Captain Brenner, Don Melvald and Richard Brenner and b.) another post Iâve been working on regarding Captain Brenner and the bizarre overlap he has with Richard Brenner, the Doppelgorgon, Vecna, the MF, Vecna Vision Brenner, and one particular version of Massacre Henward.
And the whole âyou have to be your dad,â thing from TFS re: overlap between in-show Brenner and Captain Brenner (especially with Welcome to Marwen being confirmed inspiration for ST & being referenced in TFS & both in-show Brenner *and* Captain Brenner having direct parallels to Captain Mark Hogancamp, who wasnât ever actually a WW2 Captain at all, but instead, had this whole fake world where he believed he was.)
And then that ^ vs another post Iâve been working on regarding the references to crossing between worlds in TFS & how while I donât think TFS is âreal,â in the typical âhey this is normal and real and canon,â sense, I do think that live theatre & constantly having actors cross from the audience onto the stage is an odd choice for something thatâs entirely fake. âTFS isnât real/is likely some sort of NINA situation,â and âTFS isnât entirely separate from in-show and thereâs some weird crossover stuff going on there,â can coexist, especially in the context of my beliefs re: âI (obviously) donât think nina is Real TM/the real events of 1979, but I DO think that nina has weird crossovers into reality/affects reality & has a ton of word for word parallels to wolverine travelling into the past to change the future in xmen: days of future past, and that TFSâ crossing between worlds stuff falls into that category of ânot Real TM but also not entirely separated from realityâ.â
After all, when Henry says âItâs not real, Iâm normal, Iâm Henry Creel,â we all sort of laugh and go âright, buddy. Youâre Not normal, and youâre likely Not even Henry, considering all of your Edward coding-â but why stop there? Why do we (myself included, obviously) question/âdisagree withâ those two parts of the phrase, but not with the first part?
And Iâm saying this ^ as someone whoâs been on the âTFS isnât ârealââ train from the very start- and who is still on that train, which Iâll explain (at least a little bit) in a moment, because I obviously still donât think itâs fully real/I think itâs just as real as nina is- but the thing is, I think that nina is more real than it seems.
After all, what better way to get someone to do something (something like killing, even) than to have them believe that itâs not real and that therefore, thereâs no actual consequences?
After all, if Brenner wanted El to believe that nina was real, in order for her to âfully re-experience,â her past or whatever, then why the hell did he tell her at the very start that itâs âa memoryâ? Why shatter that illusion of realism at the start? Why talk to her through the speakers? Shouldnât he want her to fully believe that itâs real?
Unless, of course, itâs not just a simulation/just a memory, and DOES have actual consequences in the real-world, and therefore, El wouldnât be willing to attack Henward and open the gate in the process (something Brenner was very eager about/was his desired result), because sheâs the type of person who would want to change that fate for him/I donât think she would have done it if she knew that it wasnât just a memory, ESPECIALLY if itâs something that didnt actually happen in 1979/only happened Because of what present-day El did in nina, and therefore, wasnt something that she ever did IRL/in a situation where she believed that what was happening was real.
And also, why say that you two are going to âjourney into the pastâ together? Thatâs the sort of thing/the idea of Brenner somehow also crossing into nina (in some way) that has me staring at whatever weird crossover is going on between in-show Richard and Captain Brenner.
And isnât it odd that Virginiaâs the one who pushes the âitâs not real,â stuff on Henry, and then is also the person that Henry kills (with the Mindflayerâs involvement of course)? It lowkey feels a little bit like thereâs a connection there re: âHenry, at least on some level, doesnât think this is real/his grasp on what is vs isnât real is slipping, and therefore is more likely to do things like kill Virginia (the person who is specifically associated with the âitâs not realâ stuff) than he would be otherwise.â
But Iâm just rambling incoherently and getting ahead of myself, since of that is a topic for another time and for another post.
Anyway! Just some thoughts!
captain brenner?
thereâs something haunting me about the âdemo visionâ stuff vs the demogorgon not having eyes & the whole âitâs seeing via the mindflayer/however the fleshflayer sees,â thing, and like a.) how does That work and b.) it makes me think about the very weird early BTS versions of the S1 Demogorgon where they seemed to be planning on keeping the human face visible, as theyâd designed this weird, bloody, Ed Gein-esque flesh mask that isnât seen in later versions of the suit:
And so, going back to the whole âDemovision,â thing, it makes me think about Captain Brennerâs Invisible Man references, and how the bandages on Captain Brennerâs face seem to resemble the weird Demogorgon flesh mask:
Almost like like thereâs an âinvisible manâ inside the demogorgon.
And itâs especially interesting with how Bathroom Scene Pattyâs face opens up like a demogorgon to reveal a weird skull face underneath (which is interesting because itâs even more imagery thatâs reinforcing the idea of a humanoid face/entity existing within the Demogorgon):
And with this post and the weird parallels between Eddie Munsonâs Michael Myers mask vs Bathroom Scene Pattyâs weird face vs Elâs dark S2 eye makeup vs the masks worn by Kaliâs gang vs Captain Brennerâs face bandages and how alllll of those things resemble eachother.
And then that all brings me back to this post that I made re: S5 Vecnaâs Invisible Man similarities and how heâs âhollow,â on the inside just like the invisible man being âhollow,â inside of his bandages, and, potentially, like the Demogorgon being âhollow,â re: being filled with whatever weird Brenner/Whoever-The-Hell invisible man particles. Especially with this little post (and the far larger draft that goes with it) regarding Captain Brennerâs face in the fog in TFS and the idea that he might somehow âbe,â the fog (especially considering the Demogorgonâs demon references vs the fact that in that draft, I talk about how Captain Brenner is paralleled to the demon, Captain Howdy in The Exorcist, and how that ties to the weird fog stuff/Captain Howdy being inside Reagan much like how the weird Captain Brenner fog is inside Henry.)
And the whole thing also makes me think about Event Horizon (which is on the S4 board) and how Dr Weir is extremely (and I mean extremely, like it was almost ridiculous) paralleled to a.) Captain Brenner, b.) TFS Henry, and c.) In-Show Young Brenner, versus Weir gouging his eyes out and saying that he doesnât need them to see because the ship (which is âaliveâ after going into another dimension) can see for him/the whole Dr Weir seeing without eyes thing vs the Demovision thing vs the Brennergorgon stuff/Captain Brenner Demogorgon stuff vs the Captain Brenner vs Dr Weir parallels, itâs all just making me insane.
Anyway! Just some thoughts.
Captain Will the Wise of Many Colours: Brenner Sr, Will, and Saruman
So, I know Iâve already talked about some of the connections between Will and Brenner Sr, but hereâs yet ANOTHER one.
So, Will (specifically, Will The Wise) is repeatedly directly paralleled to Saruman- for example, this art of Will The Wise is pulled RIGHT from this shot of Saruman:
And even the name âWill the Wise,â is a reference to Saruman The Wise:
Plus all of the stuff with Will being a spy/double agent like Saruman being a double agent etc etc.
And not only does Brenner Sr RESEMBLE Saruman with the white beard-
-but thereâs also the fact that Saruman changes from Saruman The White/Saruman The Wise to Saruman of Many Colours & has rainbow robes instead of white robes versus Brenner Srâs involvement with Project Rainbow:
Anyway! Lots to think about. Especially with everything Iâve talked about re: the Brennergorgon & Doppelganger stuff/Brenner and Will shapeshifting references vs Saruman also being a shapeshifter who simply takes on the form of an old manâŚ

im literally tormented by brenner sr constantly like what the fuck is up with that old man like they just expect us to believe that he somehow magically was the sole survivor of the eldridge who somehow MAGICALLY returned from dimension x on his own???? no. no i KNOW that old man came back Wrong (aka he did not come back at All) i KNOW he was absorbed by a doppelgorgon that shapeshifted into him & that's how he got back to the RU (staring at the doppelgorgon being able to open gates in S1) like do they just expect us to believe that a Regular Old Man just somehow magically opened a gate between dimension x and the RU and went home???? NO!!!!!!!! something is up with that old man
You Are Nothing: The Voice Of Saruman, The Wizard Of Ozâs Voice and Henryâs Shadow Voice (Ft The Brenners)
So, itâs interesting to me that in TFS, Henry has these lines to Patty that he says in the shadow voice:
But then, right after that, Brenner (who supposedly did not hear that convo between Patty and Henry because it was happening kind of in the void/supernaturally/Brenner didnât react to it at the time/he shouldnt have any way of hearing it), says this:
Why is Brenner Jr basically saying the exact same thing to Henry that the shadow said to Patty via Henry?
Which, this all connects to what I said right after I saw TFS about how Henryâs shadow voice sounds quite a lot like Brenner (both Brenner Sr and and Brenner Jr tbh).
Which, this makes me think of The Wizard of Oz, and all of the Wizard of Oz references in TFS (such as Patty being dressed like Dorothy), versus The Wizard Of Oz/The Man Behind The Curtain, and the way he amplifies his voice and how it sounds quite similar to Henryâs shadow voice.
And speaking of wizards, Henryâs shadow voice also reminds me of The Voice of Saruman, who is also a wizard, which is especially interesting considering the parallels between Brenner Sr and Saruman.
And so, hereâs a video showing The Voice of Saruman vs The Wizard of Oz Wizardâs Voice vs Henryâs Shadow Voice vs Brenner Sr and Brenner Jrâs Voices- and when you listen, it becomes really clear that Brenner Jr snarls his words the same what that Shadow Voice Henry snarls his words:
And it doesnât come across as well on the video as it did IRL, but Henryâs shadow voice has the same booming sound and echo as Sarumanâs voice and The Wizard of Ozâs voice- and also a very similar booming sound to the way that Brenner Sr and Brenner Jr yell, which is extra interesting considering the whole âyou have to be your dadâ thing in TFS and how Brenner Jr/Martin doesnât yell in-show.
The only time we see Brenner yell in-show is in S1, when Shepard dies, which also seems to be Richard rather than Martin, which is interesting considering the constant connections between Brenner Sr and Richard and the idea that Richard might be Brenner Sr.
And also, I know that you cant hear quite a smuch of the booming effect with the clip of Brenner Sr because it got dampeneed for some reason on the video- like when I listen to the rest of the video, that whole section with the ship and Brenner Sr is dampeneed, including the VERY loud noise when they cut to the destroyed USS Eldridge which was so loud you could FEEL the boom sound in-person but for some reason my phone didnt quite capture the audio properly. But point is, the way he yells is VERY similar to Saruman and The Wizard of Oz and Henryâs Shadow Voice.
And also, interestingly enough, during that scene where Henry used the shadow voice towards Patty, the ST OST track âa memory within a memoryâ plays- which also plays when Brenner talks about Brenner Sr and Project Rainbow- so yet again, Brenner Sr is connected to the shadow voice even via the music choices.
Brenner Sr and Jr, quick, why are you the shadow but also Vecna???
The Most Evil Man In Hawkins: Don Melvald and Brenner Sr (Ft Richard Brenner and Brenner Sr's Punk Era/Axel Delivering Brenner Subtext and Ketamine)
So, Mark Hammersley posted this picture of himself as Brenner Sr:
And then, right after that Brenner Sr picture, he posted this picture of himself as Don Melvald:
And look at the caption- "secretly the most evil man in Hawkins"- that's an interesting caption for a guy that's supposedly a random store owner- it's almost the sort of caption that woudl fit better with Brenner Sr. It's almost like Brenner Sr and Don Melvald are being connected here, especially with how often Brenner gets referred to as "man"/"the man" in-show versus Don getting called "the most evil man" in this caption.
Hell, Kali even refers to Brenner as "a man you knew was evil":
And of course, I take everything that's said/posted by actors with a HUGE grain of salt, and on its own, Markâs caption isn't particularly strong evidence of some sort of subtext/connection related to Brenner Sr and Don Melvald- but there's three key things that piqued my interest here and led me to believe that there IS some sort of Melvald-Brenner connection:
