the Diives Family, from the Capitol's POV
Malachi Angeles, the Capitol's wealthiest and most famous jeweler and one of three industry leaders of District One. Married Pleur Diives, 43rd Victor of Panem, when he was 42 and she was a fresh 20, it truly was love at first sight. Married for twenty five years, they had together three children, two Victors: Cashmere (63rd Games) and Gloss (64th Games), and one third child, deceased in the 65th Games at the age of 17. Tragically killed in his own home by his own ungrateful wife in the summer of 71.
Important notes: he is famous for his short temper and shrewd mind. Many around the Capitol have remarked that this man is nothing if not remarkably self-indulgent. He has a thing for fine jewelry, an eye for the most decadent fabrics, and prefers blondes. Outside of his marriage to Pleur Diives, it seems he had taken a mutual liking to none other than Rhubae Gallrock, Victor of the 61st Hunger Games also from District One. Maybe that infidelity was the cause of his wife's turn? And who can blame him, Ms Gallrock is indeed a stunner! Back to Malachi, well, he is an impossible man to pin down, always changing his style, but one thing is certain, his favorite color is blue and he'll never miss a chance to flaunt his immeasurable wealth. Parties with him are, were, the most remarkable things known to Panem, filled with only the finest liquors, music, and entertainment in kind.
Pleur Diives, the 43rd Victor of the Hunger Games, winning them at 17. Famous for her unforgettable betrayal of her 12y/o District partner, Brillian after nearly 3 weeks of keeping him alive and promising him the crown. On the surface and outside of the arena, she is a devoted mother to her three children and a dutiful wife. In the seedy underbelly of Capitol affairs, however, it would seem she earned herself quite a reputation, seen flaunting herself to any and all interested parties. Malachi, aware of this, was always sure to be there for her protection and perhaps his own enjoyment as well. When your wife is the legend hersef, who can blame you?
Important notes: she is most known as one of Panem's longest-serving elected Mentors, choosing to return to the Games every year but three (the years she'd given birth to her children) to Mentor, gather Sponsorships, promote, and otherwise help District One to its many, many Victories. By this logic, she successfully saw out of the arena 6 Victors: Temper Heavensmark (56th), Rhubae Gallrock (61st), Cashmere Diives (63rd), Gloss Diives (64th), Augustus Braun (67th), and Gemaline Lamont (73rd) in her more than 20 years of Mentoring.
Cashmere Diives, first daughter of Malachi Angeles and Pleur Diives, and legendary older sister in the 'Golden Twins of Panem.' She won her Games (63rd) the day she turned 17, making her technically the youngest Victor from District 1 and certianly one of the most memorable. Out of the arena, she has had quite the number of scandals in the Capitol but most prominently being her apparently steamy relationship with none other than Quarter Quell Victor Haymitch Abernathy of District Twelve. Never far from one another in the Capitol, we can only assume their relationship is as enticing and beautiful as the glimpses we see in places lik the Sponsor's Hall or the Victory Galas. It almost makes you wonder, is this taste for older men hereditary?
Important notes: Despite an outwardly friendly personality boardering on being too chummy, Cashmere is famous for punching one Rhubae Gallrock her first year of Mentoring, allegedly after nasty words were spilled relating to her brother and tribute that year, Gloss. She has also been seem hitting or threatening to hit other Victors like our favorite Brutus Folley or Vendor Cultpack, bringing into question the true nature of our 'golden girl.' It's no wonder, being a Victor and all, that her blood runs hot and she's prone to violence.
Gloss Diives, first and only son of the Diives family, did the unthinkable when he won the 64th Hunger Games only a year after his sister, Cashmere won the 63rd. Prior to this, Panem had never seen a back-to-back Victory in any District, let alone a Victor getting their sibling out of the arena. Truly a legendary feat on his behalf. Beyond this Victory, not much can be said about Gloss that doesn't also feature his sister. It would seem they're truly Golden Twins indeed, rarely without the other, even on dates. Oh, the number of times they've been caught by paparazzi out on double dates, always seeking only the most elite Panem has to offer. That, too, much run in the family, huh?
Important notes: he is an avid cook and baker, capable of making the finest of dishes even with less than ideal ingredients. We in the Capitol, though, were never graced with this gift. For whatever reason, the Diives decided an encore of Cashmere's singing for her Victor Talents, now with Gloss Diives as her background musical prodigy, was in order. We can't complain, though. After all, their duo 'the Golden Twins' gave us such legendary songs and even more legendary performances.
Silk Diives, is the only one from the Diives family not to be a Victor. Overconfidence was her downfall. Volunteering for the 65th Games the year after her brother won and two years after her sister, every one in Panem could see it was hopeless. Everyone but her own family, it seems. In the end, she was bested by the Victor of that year, Finnick Odair (District 4). Little is known about her save from what we got out of her pre-Games interviews. She was confident, capable, but ultimately out of her depths. Skilled with throwing stars, an avid survivalist just like her older sister, and decent enough in combat, many Capitol Game-nuts agree that she had all the makings of a Victor had she waited a year. And what a shame. A body like that deserves a crown and the worshiping of a Queen.
Important notes: Since not much is known about Silk Diives, it's a fascinating dive instead to look at her siblings' reaction to both her volunteering and her death in the arena. Both Cashmere and Gloss were seen confidently, maybe arrogantly swearing upon their sister's Victory. Behind only Finnick Odair himself, Silk Diives accrued the most Sponsorships for a tribute in that arena, thanks largely to her siblings rallying only the wealthiest of the Capitol behind her. And when it was all said and done? What could the remaining Diives siblings do but thank their Sponsors for their generous gifts and move on?
