Questions By @books-and-floralteacups!
If you could have dinner with one author, who would they be? Mary Shelley. Not an easy answer, but I think dinner with her would both be hilarious and enlightening.Â
What book would you recommend to everyone? I’m going to think outside my box a bit! Maybe one of the books about law that I started reading before university - the compact, simple ones. It’s become increasingly apparent to me that a lot of people just aren’t aware of their rights - maybe I’ll make a separate post on this!
Which genre do you usually not read? Horror. I get creeped out easily, but I do admire it as a genre on both a bit of a morbid level and because I think it’s no mean feat to scare people with words - while I don’t agree with the assumption that only visual media can evoke fear, I do think it takes some particular skill to hit the mark (but the same can still be said for movies & television).
Which book made you realize that you love reading? The Harry Potter books started the journey, but reading A Brave New World actually made me realise that I love ‘reading’ in itself. Beforehand, I was reading fantasy books almost exclusively, but I began to branch out and realised that I wasn’t reading just for the type of stories, but because reading could introduce me to totally new worlds.
Do you write notes in your books’ margins? Do you annotate your books? Only textbooks, I can’t bear to write on book pages. I could never break off from reading to annotate either.Â
If you could have one book adapted perfectly for the big screen, which book would you choose? Who would your dream cast consist of? Big question! You say ‘perfectly’, so I say perhaps the Sabriel series by Garth Nix. I read them so long ago, but they had such an altogether different style from the fantasy books I had read. My dream cast would be no-one famous, and I always imagined Sabriel to be a WoC, so that’d be important to me.
Have you ever been to an author meet and greet? Once! Gayle Foreman signed my copy of If I stay, long before it became a teleivison show.
Audiobooks, e-books, or physical books? I haven’t really engaged with audiobooks, mainly because listening to anything for long makes me fall asleep. I like e-books on my Kindle and physical books equally.
Hardbacks or paperbacks? Paperbacks, unless the hardbacks are quite light and small - I have weak arms.Â
Do you use a library? University library for studying, but not so much loaning books. I’m trying to use local libraries more.
Dog-ear book pages or nah? Nah. I (rarely) use a bookmark, or I hope to remember it (and then I don’t)
Thank you so much for asking me! If anyone wants to engage with me on any of this word vomit, please do.
My 11 questions:
Do you share your love of books with other family members?
What was one book that particularly stuck with you, and why?
Do you like to learn about the authors & context around the books you read?
Do you prefer series or lone books?
Have you ever re-read a book and totally changed your opinion on it?
What are your opinions on book adaptations to movies (or other media) in general?
Do you have to read before you go to bed?
Are there any books that you plan to share with your children or any future generations in your life?
Where do you find the best recommendations for your next read?
Do authors’ actions in real life influence your opnions on their books?
Any favourite non-fiction books?
