okay so i'm set to watch the entire series for the first time (i'm on season 3 atm) and I wanted to ask you, till which episode does jackie and hyde are on good terms? and is it worth watching season 8? i wanna save myself some heartache
Hi there! So glad to hear you found the series, isn’t it great?
Jackie and Hyde go through a couple ups and downs throughout their entire relationship before it completely hits the rocks in the last ep of S7/first ep of S8. If you want to avoid that whole final drama, there are a couple of places you can stop it, each of which I outline here. (If your not sure how much you want to subject yourself to, and therefore where to stop watching, I gave a brief-ish synopsis of those last few episodes to someone in your similar position here.)
Some people may disagree with me, but I honestly don’t think S8 is worth it, and I don’t just mean because of what happens with Jackie and Hyde. Eric is gone and Kelso soon follows him, a new character is brought in to take fill the void they left, and everyone is written completely out of character. Some people push through it just to get to the finale, but I don’t think it’s all that great and there are too many things in S8 that simply can’t be unseen. It’s much better to just never let it be a part of the show for you.
I’ve written a ton about S8 in the past, and finally complied everything into a masterlist that you might find helpful. Those two links I gave you above are in there, but I also talk about why S8 happened and how the series was most likely going to end before the network ordered another season. Maybe I’m weird in this respect, but it always helps me to understand the why.
