The scene is set with a very large, black cat sitting in front of a store front very simply and vaguely named āAntiques and Curiositiesā. The store front has presented a puzzle for the cat, who has been staring at the window in that odd, blank fashion cats sometimes get when they seem to be tracking invisible spiders on the wall.Ā
The Grimalkin was sure that it has passed by this street before, and this building had been empty. And it still was. It could see that much -- no cat out of its first fur is fooled by glamours, not matter how clever the make, and the Grimalkin shed that coat centuries ago. Yet, there was also a store here. And not here.
Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back; well, it was neither dead nor satisfied, yet, but it was faced with this very tricky conundrum - how does one enter a building that is both there and not there at the same time? Were this the Fae realm, it could have gone through on simple right of passage, but this one didnāt belong to one of the Fair Folk.
Itās tail tapped on the ground in a perturbed fashion, as it considered the merits of taking on a less favorable form -- hands certainly had their benefits, but it always missed its lovely fur when it had to be a person -- when the door suddenly opened, letting out a customer carrying a modest paper bag with what appeared to be a piece of carved bone sticking out of the top.
This is not cheating, it reassured itself as it darted in through the door that was swinging closed, just barely keeping its tail from catching. Opportunity is a valid means of achievement.
And now it wanted a good look at who would run such a place. The cat padded through the shop silently, though it made no pointed effort to hide itself from view, pausing occasionally to sniff at some of the more unusual items. There was true magick here, mixed in with oddities and antiques, just as the sign on the door promised.Ā
The cat rounded a corner leading to the other side of the shop counter, and a spike of fear made it pull back into itself. It had been anticipating, perhaps, some very high-powered hedgewitch or one of those self-proclaimed warlock lords that seemed to be trying to gain a foothold in the magicking world, but no --- it could smell the faint traces of sulfur now, see the thick black mane and the wolfās skull, adorned with ram horns.
Demon. By Old Tomās tattered coat, heād walked right into a demonās lair. One with canine tendencies, too. Oh Grim, youāve done it now!
