Dear Gus,

This morning we went to Collins’s house for a birthday party for her and her mom. You had your first Fruit Roll-Up and had fun playing with her in her room while Mom and I talked with grown-ups outside--there were only a few kids there. Then we went to Big Orange for lunch before going home to get your costume and joining the Cerratos in their front yard for a casual birthday party for Zoey. You loved playing on the big swing in the back yard. After that, we were all exhausted, but we set up a table and candy slide to pass out candy on our street. Our street hired multiple city cops to patrol and we barricaded the street to vehicular traffic. Everyone chalked up some arrows on the sidewalk to encourage trick-or-treaters to only move in one direction along the west side of the street and the other direction on the east side of the street. I’m generally not a Halloween person--I don’t like not being able to immediately recognize who I’m talking to--but tonight had such a community feel to it that I could see myself being a Halloween person here on Ridgeway. 

It was a long day, but a good one.
