Glacier National Park is one of seven national parks in British Columbia, and is part of a system of 43 parks and park reserves across Canada. Established in 1886, the park encompasses 1,349 km², and includes a portion of the Columbia Mountains. The park is open year-round; valley trails open in May, while upper-elevation trails are snowed-in into early July. Day-use areas open in June, and campgrounds open in late June. We decided to take a road trip east this summer, as last year we went west. We started our trip in Grasslands National Park, a place I thought and hoped would be pretty cool, and Jeremy just agreed to go to because I wanted to, with expectations low. Well, this place exceeded both our expectations more than we ever could have imagined, and it is stuck in our hearts and minds. The incredible landscapes, wildlife and isolation of this place are truly special. There is lots of hiking, wildlife ecotour drives, birdwatching, and almost no people. It really was our perfect kind of place and we will be back. Soon.
