Fascinating to me that I'm well into Act 6 (just got to the reunion after the retcon) and despite the fact that there has literally been ZERO CONVOS between Jake and Dirk, the story presents the relationship with such good characterization that I instinctively know what their convos are like. Obviously there's that first convo with Hal, and that convo with Brain Ghost Dirk, but once again those are splinters??? I find that insane. I'm this far, there hasn't been a single written out convo between the two, yet the characters are so consistent that you just know.

Following up on that post, I think it's interesting that dirk and jake very much have talked offscreen but not in any significant way. Miscommunication is their biggest issue, and I feel like this active lack of them having a talk on screen is an extension of that. If you think about it, that means their entire relationship is based on the reader's assumptions, just how their relationship is based on their assumptions of one another.
