Ok I need to talk about something really important in regards to the new episode.
⚠️Spoilers below⚠️
Ive seen so many people arguing over whether or not Camilla is a good parent.
As someone who’s been subject to a lot of what Luz went through with her mom, I feel I’m allowed to have an input.
For starters, Camilla is NOT a terrible parent. She’s given Luz a nice home, food on her table, clothes on her back, and she LOVES Luz.
But Camilla is not without flaws or faults.
Camilla, throughout the entire episode, was being as supportive as she could be. And for that, we can appreciate her.
However, right at the end of the episode, she put Luz in a VERY difficult spot by making her promise she’d stay in the human realm once she found a sure way back.
Now we know Camilla just wants her daughter back and is fearing for her safety and all, but here’s the thing;
Luz has been sending her TONS of messages about what’s been going on. I’m sure once Luz opened the portal, those messages probably finally went through to Camilla’s phone.
Now Camilla has a full stock of videos with Luz explaining how much she LOVES the boiling isles.
She has video after video of Luz explaining her fun shenanigans with the friends she made there. She has video after video of Luz explaining how much Eda cares for her and how happy she is learning tame magic/teaching glyph magic. She has video after video of Luz being happy.
Camilla, after knowing how much the human realm has screwed her over and how much the Boiling Isles changed her life for the better and how it was “the best decision Luz ever made”, still decided to beg her daughter to promise she’d stay in the place where she was miserable, just because she missed her.
I know they had limited time to finish talking, but Camilla shouldn’t have said that. She should have told Luz to be careful, and say she misses her, and that’s it.
They could’ve left the big decision making for later once they have time to fully discuss everything, but Camilla didn’t think to consider how it would make Luz feel. Like, AT ALL.
Camilla is not a horrible parent, but she’s made some pretty big errors in judgement. She’s not perfect.
So please, would everyone stop arguing about it? Every single character including Luz is COMPLEX. They each have their OWN PERSONALITIES.
Not every character is going to be perfect/horrible, it’s not all black and white. Theres flaws in all the good characters, and good in *most* of the flawed characters. That’s what makes them complex characters.
Camilla isn’t perfect. She’s neither perfect nor the worst. She’s a good parent with flaws. Just like ALL HUMANS HAVE FLAWS. So knock off the arguments, none of you guys are right.
