A NEW NEMATODE OF THELASTOMATIDAE FROM A BURROWING INSECT | UTTAR PRADESH JOURNAL OF ZOOLOGY
Many nematodes were discovered during a taxonomic investigation of insect parasitic nematodes in February 2019 at Khordak village in Thanga, Manipur. Among them, a specimen from the genus Cameronia was discovered to have a number of morphological characteristics that set it apart from other species. Basir created the genus Cameronia in 1948, with Cameronia biovata as the type species, which was discovered in the insect Gryllotalpa africana. The presence of a single annule around the mouth opening, followed by a large prominent second annule, with many small spine-like structures seen at each junction of successive cephalic annules up to the end of the oesophagus, distinguishes this newly discovered specimen. The body's annules can be seen. The eggs are elongated and elliptical. The current specimen is more closely related to the three known Cameronia species: C. triovata, C. manipurensis, and C. meerutensis. However, the comparative study shows numerous differences between the three species, primarily in terms of morphological structure. After considering the major differences, the current specimen must be classified as a new species in the genus Cameronia, with a new name of Cameronia conoides n.sp. based on the conoid-shaped tail.
