thinking about donna and cameron being the love story of halt and catch fire. from the moment they meet they become destined to constantly circle in each other’s orbits, even when they weren’t speaking for 8 years (maybe especially then). after knowing each other for less than 12 hours donna equates cameron’s language, code, to her own, music. there’s nobody who truly understands and sees the other more than each other (cameron was the first one to see donna as more than the “mom”, donna was the only one to finish pilgrim). cameron couldn’t find a way to be fulfilled working with joe and gordon, donna couldn’t have an idea until cameron walked back into her life. they need each other to be the best version of themselves, a fact they probably quickly realized and hated for those 8 years. the dissolution of their partnership was their worst heartbreak and them finding their way back to each other is how we leave them at the end of the story, their arcs completed. each other’s last and best partners
