One of the cool details about the Kingdom of Callow is that while most of their culture is the stereotypical good aligned fantasy kingdom, theres a notable outlier.
"For small slights, long prices."
Callowans are vengeful, and not particularly fair or reasonable about it. This is one of the pillars of Callowan culture.
And or course Catherine embodies everything dark in Callow, and eagerly partakes in long prices.
One thing I hope the rewrite does is givn us a Callowan legend/fairy tale/moral aesop which displays this with the kind of story that would normally end in a 'vengeance bad' lesson but instead has it treated as the perfectly righteous thing to do. A Callowan hero would not be considered fallen for an act of vengeance. Thats just how they view the world and justice.
