ALLISON.
âJackson,â she murmured as a sleepy smile rested on her face. It was a surprise to see him at her door, but not an unwelcome one.
It hadnât exactly been smooth sailing for Allison lately, but at this point that came with the territory. She wasnât exactly sure what Jackson really wanted, but if he had come all this way⊠She could probably sneak him up to her room to talk.
What her dad didnât know couldnât give him a heart attack. He had enough opinions on Scott McCall and Scott had been the sweetest guy sheâd ever brought homeâ but this wasnât Scott, this was Jackson. It wasnât the soft smiling boy in her class; this was an outspoken guy she hadnât fully figured out. But it wasnât like that. This was strictly platonic; she wasnât in a stable enough place to let someone in like she had let in Scott. Not now. But it wouldnât kill her to be a good friend.
Smiling sweetly, she spoke up one last time.
âDo you want to come inside?â
âIs your dad home?â Jackson shut his eyes, already feeling like a jackass for the way that came out, âI...I didnât mean it like that.â
Jackson wouldnât admit his own fear, but Chris Argent was a pretty scary guy. He wasnât big, loud and scary. Itâs not like he was jacked and could crush Jackson like a orange between his arms.Â
No, Chris Argent was the complete opposite and that was even scarier.Â
The guy was quiet, but the way he looked at you made you feel like he was scanning you from the inside out or something. Jackson probably had more mass on the guy, but Mr. Argent could probably snap his arm in half in two seconds flat.
Oh, and Jackson knew about the weapons he kept. Allisonâs parents were total hard asses. Jackson had a feeling that Mr. Argent was the type to make teenage boys who snuck into his house late at night very acquainted with his collection.
âI just donât want him to kick my ass.â
