Worry have you ever read Libba Bray? I really love her work.
I haven’t. I just looked her up, and I noticed she’s a very recent author.
To be completely honest, I haven’t read a lot of modern books. Many or any from around 2008 and onward. I did a lot of reading in high school. A lot. Like, all I did in high school was go to school, work occasionally (for the last two years, three days a week for a couple hours each day), have band practice two days a week, and read. I barely did homework. I kinda just... read. In school. Out of school. It’s just what I did. I would go to the bookstore and come out with a stack of ten books. I stalked the young adult aisle, the fantasy/sci-fi aisle, and occasionally the romance aisle. I used to know a lot of the books as they came out.
In college, however, I lost my time. I was with friends more. I was out doing things. I had actual homework. I felt like I was busy more, and I lived with friends so I rarely had time to myself. Plus I was an English major, so I had a lot of reading there. So I stopped reading for myself as much in college.
Then as an adult, I just... haven’t had the time or energy to go out and find new books. I haven’t had the money to spend on books. Depression and stress has zapped a lot of my energy over the years, and reading/finding new books has just been harder. What I enjoy about fanfiction is that I already love the characters, so it takes less energy to slip into a story, and that’s helped me get back into reading more over the past few years.
So... yeah, this is a long explanation to say if they’re books from the last ten or so years, I probably haven’t read it.
