This came up during a Commander game a few nights ago. As I understand the rules */* P/T constantly checks and X/X is determined at time of casting/entering the battlefield and remains that as long as the permanent doesn't leave the battlefield. However multiple people at a the table stated that Nighthowler enchanting a creature which grants +X/+X will change as more creatures enter the graveyard. Am I misunderstanding the rules or is it some sort of exception?
You’re right in general, but +X/+X is different from a token being created with with base P/T of X/X. +X/+X (and all the minus and 0 variants) can be checked repeatedly if it comes from a continuous effect of a permanent, such as Nighthowler.
