Hey so the Laken Riley Act has gotten past the House and has been reintroduced to the Senate, and we really gotta take action about it, because the whole point of it is to force law enforcement to detain illegal immigrants for pretty much any alleged crime including things like suspected shoplifting, even if it's not been proven.
Please call your senators about it and tell them not to support the bill.
For a basic script, use this (feel free to add a bit about it being super racist if you have a senator who will be receptive to that)
Hi. I'm calling today from [state your person represents] as a constituent of [name of your person]. I heard about HR 29, or the Laken Riley Act, and was calling to express my deep concern for it, as it would seriously harm [name of your person]'s constituents in my community, by forcing law enforcement to go ahead with detentions they deem unnecessary, which would waste [name for people who live in your state]'s tax dollars. Because of this, I'm calling on [him/her] to vote NO when the bill comes to a floor vote. (They'll say that they'll pass it along) Thank you, I appreciate that. Have a good day. *hang up*

If you need help, feel free to send me an ask.
The House passed legislation that would ban TikTok, the video-sharing app used by 170 million Americans, unless it part ways with its Chines
HR 7521 - Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act is up for a Senate vote next. Biden has said he will sign it into law if it makes it to his desk.
Here is a website with a petition to sign and a call bot you can use to contact various senators to urge them to vote against HR 7521.
Fleshed out call script (dontbantiktok.com and their call bot each offer a partial script; I've combined them and added some missing pieces):
"Hi, my name is [full name], my address is [home address], and my phone number is [number]. I am calling Senator [name] to urge [senator's pronoun] to vote no on House Resolution 7521, which would ultimately force TikTok to shut down and puts free expression at risk. I want my elected officials to actually protect my sensitive data from China and other governments, not ban TikTok. Stop feeding moral panic about ‘what the kids are doing on TikTok’ and pass a real data privacy law to stop Big Tech companies – including TikTok! – from harvesting and abusing our personal data for profit. [Optional if you are one of the senator's constituents: I am a constituent and my vote in the next election depends on Senator [name] voting no to HR 7521.] Thank you for your time."
I cobbled together a call script for KOSA. If any of you wish to use it when you call or email your Senators, please do.
Please call your Senators, and if you haven’t already, go sign the petitions
Tell Congress: Ban bump stocks!
In the wake of the horrifying shooting in Las Vegas, some Republicans in Congress have expressed openness to banning bump stocks, used by the shooter to convert semiautomatic weapons to automatic. Since automatic weapons are already banned in the United States, this is an obvious, bipartisan reform that could help make shootings less deadly.
The bill already has 38 cosponsors in the Senate, but we need more if we want to build enough momentum to get it to the floor. Call both your Senators and ask them to cosponsor the bump stock ban!
Here’s your script: “Hi, my name is [your name] and I’m a constituent from [your town]. I’m calling to ask if Senator so-and-so has taken a position on Senator Feinstein’s bill banning bump stocks like the ones used in the Las Vegas shooting?”
If undecided: “I really hope that Senator so-and-so will cosponsor this bill. There’s no reason anyone needs to be able to fire hundreds of rounds a minute, especially since automatic weapons are already illegal. Thank you.”
If opposed: “That’s terrible. There’s no reason anyone needs to be able to fire hundreds of rounds a minute, especially since automatic weapons are aleady illegal. I hope that Senator so-and-so will reconsider and cosponsor this bill to make future shootings less deadly.”
If supporting: “That’s great! I hope that Senator so-and-so will also consider cosponsoring the bill if they haven’t already. Thank you.”

Tell the House: Don’t gut the Americans with Disabilities Act!
Republicans in the House of Representatives have a horrible new idea that’s largely flown under the radar: A new piece of legislation that changes how businesses are required to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Currently, businesses have to make their buildings accessible - if they don’t, they’re breaking the law. H.R. 620 shifts the burden to people with disabilities who are denied access. If a person in a wheelchair found a business that denied them access, they’d have to carefully document it, submit a complaint, and then wait SIX MONTHS to see if the building made “substantial progress” towards accommodation before seeking a court order to make the business comply with the ADA. That’s an enormous task to force onto disabled people just trying to live their lives, and it means that fewer businesses will accommodate people with disabilities.
H.R. 620 passed the House Judiciary Committee next week. Now, it’s heading to the floor. Call your Representative and urge them to oppose it!
Here’s your script: “Hi, my name is [your name] and I’m a constituent from [your town]. I’m calling to ask Representative So-and-so to oppose H.R. 620, the ADA reform bill. This bill puts a huge burden on people with disabilities, forcing them to wait months or years just to visit local businesses. People with disabilities deserve equal access without being tied up in red tape. Please vote against H.R. 620. Thank you.”
Thank your senators who voted against repeal!
This is HUGE: Last night, the Senate voted down their bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Your calls made a difference. Democrats stayed unified, and three Republicans crossed party lines to stop a bill that would have caused millions of people to lose their insurance.
Now it’s time for some positive reinforcement. If your senator voted against this bill, call them to thank them for defending our health care!
Here’s your script: “Hi, my name is [your name] and I’m a constituent from [your state]. I’m calling to thank the senator for [his/her] vote against repealing the Affordable Care Act last night. I’m really grateful that they stood up for all of us who were worried about losing our coverage. Thank you!”
