You've inspires me to to do a God Swap myself, except based on myth origins. (As an example: in the precursor to Ancient Greece, called Mycenaean Greece, Poseidon was the Lord of the Underworld AND the King of the Gods. In my Swap, he'd stay Lord of the Underworld and lose his ocean domain. Hermes would be a Nature God, because he's derived from Pan. Aphrodite is War because of the Ishtar connection. Hera is Love, and Hestia is the Sun, but I CANNOT find anything fitting for ANY of the others.) (3/4)

Trivia: Persephone was probably a Goddess of the Underworld before Hades ever existed. (There's a lot of evidence pointing to this: her many names (Persephone, Kore, Despoina), the fact that she's mentioned a lot more than Hades in relation to the Underworld, the fact that she's the daughter of Poseidon in some sources, and Poseidon himself was originally Lord of the Underworld... Meanwhile, Hades's mentions are far fewer, and he feels "simpler" from a mythology standpoint. Interesting, huh?) (4/4)

I think the reason why I envisioned the greek gods in a more serious way is because I'm used to looking at gods through the demigod lense--more specifically, the Percy Jackson POV. Percy sees the gods as vaguely humorous beings of incredible danger and deeply buried emotions, which is essentially what Percy himself is. The readers who were accustomed to Percy's POV--me, for example--ended up with the Otherworldly Human interpretations of the gods.

Apollo has known these idiots for four thousand years. I assume this is why they are so childish and ridiculous from his POV. Apollo isn't cowed by their ancient age or their archaic power. Apollo just sees who they are without the godliness. I think that's pretty much the funniest thing ever.

(but I really didn't expect them to have made bets on Apollo's quest, and I am kind of disappointed but also want to write a crack fic about how terrible the gods are at being functioning living creatures)
