Lucy hadn’t told anyone yet. Well, anyone aside from the one who was complicit in the situation. She knew she wasn’t ready to talk about it openly yet, but she was about to explode. Too scared to tell her parents, one of her brothers would be the smartest decision, and now that Caleb was back in town he was the easiest choice. They were the closest in age of any of the Barton kids, and he’d always been the first one she would talk to about Cary. It only made sense for her to call him and ask him over for dinner, or rather, dinner for him. Lucy didn’t have much of an appetite lately.
Sitting on her back porch overlooking the beach, she couldn’t help but cycle through a bunch of what-ifs as she waited for him to show. The situation was insane, and she knew it. Who else in this little town, drunk or not, would make the mistake of fuckingg their ex and not using protection? Thankfully she wasn’t left to her own thoughts for too long. Seeing him round the corner she plastered on a smile to greet him. “Hey there, stranger.”
