They had agreed, this time, to meet at a coffee shop ---somewhere public, somewhere casual. Things were slow between them, which was, at least in part, to the younger vampire’s credit. She hadn’t held much interest in anyone for more than a fling in decades, and to be fair, she still couldn’t know if this would be much more than that. She had no desire to rush into anything, and Caleb had all the time in the world. She imagined he had learned a great deal of patience in his time on earth.
Rose had arrived early, as was habitual for her, and used the time alone to read over her patient notes from the day before. By the time Caleb arrived, she had nearly finished her tea. She watched him enter, and then watched the eyes in the room cast their gaze on him, heard whispers of his name ---some less kind than others. When he finally reached their table, she quirked a brow at him and slowly closed the file. “You should have told me just how many people in this town dislike you, Mr. Erikkson. Full disclosure matters, you know.”
