Elrond   looked   at   her   with   a   calm   that   belied   the   sharpness   of   her   words.   For   all   Galadriel’s   unshakable   poise,   he   knew   the   edge   of   her   tongue   well;   she   wielded   it   as   skillfully   as   she   might   a   blade.   The   corners   of   his   lips   lifted,   though   his   eyes   held   a   subtle,   knowing   light   as   he   replied.   Words   are   the   sharpest   of   weapons   and   she   intended   to   hurt   him   with   them.

"I   am,   indeed,   grateful   for   your   influence,   Lady   Galadriel,"   he   answered,   voice   steady   as   stone   and   equally   unyielding.   "Yet   perhaps   it   is   not   entirely   a   mistake   to   trust   in   one’s   own   judgment.   Especially   when   the   course   of   things   has   so   often   fallen   to   those   willing   to   step   forward   and   decide."   He   tilted   his   head,   holding   her   gaze   firmly,   though   respect   softened   his   tone.

"One   could   say,"   he   continued,   daring   to   keep   his   gaze   steady   in   the   face   of   hers,   "that   it   is   your   legacy   to   inspire   such   conviction.   Should   I   not   then,   as   your   creation,   pursue   it?   After   all,   it   would   seem   you   would   have   me   be   nothing   less   than   who   I   am.   The   High   King   believes   in   my   judgment   and   it   is   the   only   reason   this   company   is   being   formed   as   we   speak."   It   is   not   just   for   friends   to   fight   among   them   but   all   he   can   do   is   glance   at   the   ring   upon   her   finger   and   wonder   if   she   truly   is   as   foolish   to   think   she   is   as   free   of   Sauron   as   she   believes   herself.

less than an hour ago, there had been tears in her eyes and she had found herself exposed and vulnerable - practically on her knees for the elf to stay with her, at least for a little while longer. and now she finds herself back in the candlelight of her own room. there has not been much talk, there isn't much else that needs to be said that she cannot say with hands tangled in galadriel's hair and her lips pressed to the other's.

there's a resolution of tension, of long nights spend beside each other, leliana always a right moment away from exactly this. but, there is also a desperation, a show of devotion to galadriel. leliana is hers.
