Criminal AU + Did They Didn't They
Fanfiction Trope Mash-Up || @cakeit0n
Miroku is given a job. He enjoys what he does, takes his assignments without question, has fun when he can, and always makes sure to leave the job on good terms. Is he sometimes tempted to take the fun too far? Of course he is, but it's never exploded in his face and he's not going to ruin his streak now.
This current job is easy. It's personal security for a politician while they're in the area. An easy six month job, a generous paycheck, and it's right in the great part of town. And the politician is already known to keep to themselves, so it's almost like a paid vacation.
He meets Sesshoumaru and almost everything turns on its head.
Miroku wasn't told who this politician was -- only that he was hired to be security by the office Sesshoumaru served. But now that he knows what he's doing and he knows who he's working for and he knows that the person signing his checks is definitely not the politician in question, Miroku starts digging. And digging. And finds an entire clusterfuck of an illegal mess.
It either started with embezzling or it ended there, no one can figure out what exactly happened. And while Sesshoumaru is at the center of it all, his hands are perfectly clean. At least, they appear to be. Even though the court said he was innocent and fit to return to office, every single person around him advised Sesshoumaru to take a sabbatical, lay low, work quietly, and come back when everything's been taking care of.
Ignoring that mess of questions, Miroku focuses on doing his job. Sure, Sesshoumaru is an asshole and sure, Sesshoumaru plays his cards very close to his chest, but it's not Miroku's job to dictate a person's moral compass. And Sesshoumaru is easy to guard.
Until Sesshoumaru's office starts asking Miroku questions. Starts trying to weasel out information Miroku isn't certain he can give. And it all sounds awful, but they are paying him and Sesshoumaru doesn't really care about him and the man looks guilty as fuck, but...
But. Miroku doesn't know why there's a but, there just is. And he's not going to paint anyone the bad guy until he figures it all out.
