In Defense of “Don’t Like, Don’t Read”
So, here’s the thing. Sometimes I think I may be getting a little old. Objectively, I’m really not all that ancient, but sometimes internet culture makes me think that I am. I’ve been active in various fandoms for a decade at this point, and I’ve been on Tumblr for just about as long, but somehow I don’t remember the death announcement of “Don’t Like, Don’t Read.” I understand the want for boundaries, and I can respect the need for them. But, I think it’s easy to forget that the internet is an incredibly open place. Even Tumblr. For me, I feel like Tumblr can be in a class of its own sometimes but it simply... isn't. And it’s impossible to make the internet your safe haven once you have opened yourself up to it. Sure! You can pretend the things you don’t like don’t exist. Follow whom you want to follow. Interact with whom you want to interact. But you do not get to be cruel or disgusting or genuinely rude to people who disagree with you in some ill sought moral crusade. If you do not like something, simply do not read it. Do not look at it. Do not discuss it. But when other people enjoy it harmlessly? Maybe just leave them out of it.
It’s 4am and I’ve been thinking about the jimin concept clip for the last three hours, I’m not ready.
idk where it’s all coming from all of a sudden but I gotta say the recent burst of behind the scenes lore on the filming of Elf (2003) on my dash right now is delightful thank you
22 questions
Tagged by: @sunlit-music thank you very much!! I love these games!!
Rules: answer 22 questions and tag 22 people!!
Nicknames: Sometimes adults call me Cait, but most people just go with Caitlin
Height: 5′ 4″
Last movie I saw: Captain Marvel!!! And I loved it!!!
Last thing I googled: Hark! A Vagrant! Chopin and Liszt strips
Favorite musician: Hilary Hahn!!! She’s a classical violinist and basically the most perfect person on the entire planet!
Song stuck in my head: Let’s See How Far We’ve Come by Matchbox Twenty
Number of followers: 60! and they’re all wonderful!
Number of asks: none at the moment! but I *love* getting them!
Lucky numbers: 13, 7, 91
What are you wearing? A white dress with pink and purple flowers and my navy blue ECNF naginata jacket
Dream job: a violin teacher! There is nothing else I’d rather do than play violin for the rest of my life and what could possibly be better than teaching kids about the thing I love more than anything else!
Dream trip: oooh! A summer long tour around Eastern Europe and Russia. I want to basically hop from composer’s house to composer’s house. It would be great! I’d want to end up in Saint Petersburg.
Favorite food: I love calamari, lamb, and almost anything with blue cheese.
Instruments? Violin!!! The one true love of my life!! (and a little bit of piano)
Languages: English as my first language, I’m proficient but not fluent in German, and I am learning Homeric Greek.
Favorite song: Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and the Voyevoda symphonic ballad, also Tchaikovsky
Random fact: I do a pretty rare (in the US) Japanese martial art called Naginata thats kinda like a mix between a sword and a spear. It was traditionally practiced by women in feudal Japan because the men went to go fight the feudal wars and they were like, “Well, we can't just let them take the castle.”
Aesthetic: slightly manic musician with a flair for the ancient greek
Tagging: @moth-femme @frogeyedape @violet-nocturne @kstate94 and anyone else who wants to!

I’m in such a good mood today and I just want to say that I hope you’re all have a good day or night, and that you’re amazing. And if you aren’t, just know that time heals and you won’t always feel the same way that you do now. You’re valuable and completely irreplacable. Get some sleep if you need it, have some water, take some deep breaths, bc you’ll be okay. If not today, then tomorrow. Give yourself the opportunity to grow ✨✨✨
