"Sometimes the lull between journeys is its own reward," Azem said in an idle silence. "But I did come bearing a gift since I've taken so long to visit!" Clapping her hands together, she draws forth a small pink worm toy with glass googly eyes and a thin, imperceptible string attached to its nose.
When Hythlodaeus had learned that Azem had returned from her latest adventure he had left his office almost in a hurry, excited to reunite with her and hear all the stories about the people and creatures she had encountered on her travels. The Chief of the Bureau of the Architect was not much of a fighter, he despised arguments as much as any law-abiding Amaurotine, but he could not help but admire Azem for her abilities and her courage to explore the star despite all the dangers that could be hidden around any corner.
Wrapping his arms around her in a warm embrace Hythlodaeus held her against his chest for a moment before taking a step back, gaze wandering over her to make sure she was okay, hale and hearty and only then did he invite her to sit down on the bench with him. His appreciation for her was reflected in the soft smile on his face and as always he was attracted to the warm light of her soul like a moth to the flame.
Iβve missed you. The words died on his tongue when Azem mentioned a gift and Hythlodeaus tilted his head to the side in curiosity as he looked at the little object presented to him. It looked.. like a worm with very silly eyes, but his soul sight could not discern the light of a soul radiating from it, so it had to be.. a toy?
βWhat is that?β, Hythlodaeus asked with curiosity, reaching out a hand to gently poke it before he chuckled with delight.
βAnd more important, where did you find that thing?β
The answer didnβt matter. Not really. Hythlodaeus already loved it, no matter what it was.
