the  second  jim  had  left  their  bed,  the  blanket  was  pulled  back  with  a  huff,  eyes  rolling.  he’s  just  managing  to  drift  off  to  sleep  when  the  door  is  pushed  open,  this  time  two  members  of  his  family  making  sleep  non-existent  instead  of  just  the  screeches  of  their  son.  not  that  he  would  ever  admit  this  (  even  with  a  phaser  pointed  at  his  head,  )  but  these  late  nights  with  the  three  of  them  were  some  of  his  favorites.  it  was  time  for  them,  rest  of  the  world  be  damned.  they  weren’t  captain  kirk  &  cmo  mccoy  during  these  hours.  they  were  two  dads  &  their  son.  

his  groan  is  audible  (  &  over  dramatized  )  as  jim  speaks,  pushing  the  blankets  farther  past  his  head  in  protest.  “  your  child  before  sunrise,  remember  ??  “  it’s  mumbled  against  his  pillow,  though  he  pushes  the  blanket  off  of  himself  &  sits  up,  squinting  to  see  what  time  it  is.  “  yer  dad’s  gonna  get  a  beatin,’  kid.  “  leonard  leans  against  the  headboard,  looking  over  at  his  two  boys.  would  a  sight  like  that  ever  get  old  ??  “  you  want  ta  get  some  sleep  ??  i  can  take  him.  i’m  not  going  back  any  time  soon.  “ 

“  doctor  mccoy  was  very  clear  that  you’re  to  be  on  bed  rest,  captain.  “  her  voice  is  firm,  leaving  no  room  for  argument  as  she  stood  next  to  the  other  man,  eyebrows  raised  as  if  daring  him  to  challenge  her.  “  your  temperature  is  still  not  back  to  normal  &  you’re shaking.  “  

HAPPY  BIRTHDAY   TRICIA. 

“  quit  yer  bangin’  around,  i  just  got  him  to  nap.  he’s  got  a  fever  &  it  ain’t  breakin’  for  nothin.  both  temp  &  i  checked  him  over  &  he’s  fine,  but  he’s  warmer  than  the  barn  in  july.  “  he’s  trying  not  to  show  how  concerned  he  is  for  their  son,  so  he’s  deflecting  the  concern  with  sarcasm  &  snark  as  per  usual.  “  she  thinks  it’s  just  viral.  nothin’  to  be  done  but  wait  it  out.  “  

“  he’s  gorgeous.  “  aeron  is  cradled  in  her  arms.  she’s  sitting  straight  in  the  chair,  watching  as  the  baby  takes  ahold  of  one  of  her  fingers.  he  squeezes  &  she’s  shocked  by  the  fact  that  he’s  actually  has  a  decent  grip  (  for  a  child  only  days  old.  )  she  can  already  tell  the  kid’s  gonna  be  a  handful.  with  jim  as  a  dad,  there’s  no  shock.  “  how’s  fatherhood  suiting  you  ??  where’s  daddy  number  two  anyhow  ??  went  out  for  some  milk  &  never  came  back  ??  “  she’s  teasing,  looking  up  at  him  with  a  grin.
