âThe lady Heroic Spirits sure are makinâ themselves busy today, yeah?â
âSo whatâre you doing here immersed in the simulator?â
âGet your ass back out there. You womanizing bastard.â
âWell, maybe youâre not a bastard. But you seem to be pretty popular.â
âWell, Iâm in a similar boat, actually. Iâm not gonna tell you to shut it.â
âIs it because there are so many people here who donât care about looks?â
âEver since I got this form, both men and women have been hounding me.â
âHonestly! It was so annoying!â
âThough in that case, I guess Chaldea ainât awful. Many people usually get misled by appearances, after all.â
They Made a Club
Okay, so I was going to probably like Rider Caenisâ Valentine no matter what because... look at me, but thereâs a really good bit in his Valentineâs scene that I want to point out.
I mean there are a lot of good bits (like him complaining that his Summer Form is too sexy, and so he ran into the simulator because both men and women were trying to romance him for Valentineâs and he got annoyed), but thereâs a specific, kind of plot-relevant bit that I like.
Furing his Valentineâs scene he compares his new âlifeâ- all the new friends that heâs making, and all of the connections that heâs rebuilding with the Argonauts, to âanoyoâ (ăăźäž) or basically âHeavenâ or the âother worldâ.
Before taking a moment to look at Ritsuka and going âOh, thatâs right. Youâre here.â- while he was sort of smiling passively throughout his discussion, this is where his expression turns serious. And after Ritsuka replies like âAs in, Iâm what?â, Caenis shoots back- âYouâre youâ.
And basically points out that while Ritsukaâs here- while Chaldeaâs here, after fighting âthat personâ (Wodime) and pushing forward, thereâs no way this can be âHeavenâ. Itâll always be humanity struggling to survive. And heâs not mad about it- he basically tells Ritsuka to perk up afterwards and says âItâs not like this is a surprise. We knew this wasnât Heaven to begin withâ.
And then finishes by going âRight, this isnât Heaven yet.â
Which is such a good line coming from Caenis, because at that point heâs essentially speaking as a Servant of both Ritsuka and Wodime. They both dreamed of a better world for humanity, and while Ritsuka is essentially trying to save the world and return it to normal, and Wodime was literally trying to create a âheavenâ, both Wodime and the protagonist want to see the struggles of humanity lessened.Â
Heâs still carrying that dream and that duty that Wodime passed on to both him and Ritsuka at the end of Olympus, which isnât a detail I was expecting from a Summer Variant of a Servant.
And then the scene caps off with Ritsuka going âI know this is totally against the mood you set but here!!â and hands them chocolate, reminding everyone that this is still a Valentineâs day cutscene.
